Can anyone explain me how the fuck powerlifters suck at benching? I constantly see guys at 225lb body weight squatting more than 4pl8s but they can't even budge 240lbs on the bench. How is that even possible?
Pausing is hard
Bar genetic freaks, bench is the hardest lift to progress on (relatively speaking).
It's also the one will a lower maximum potential (by far), so since powerlifters are ranked by total it completely makes sense to prioritize a high squat and deadlift, than a higher bench.
Legs are naturally stronger than arms, even when equally trained. That's all there is to it.
What a dumb thread.

Not the OP, but I have benched 180kg, the best powerlifter in my gym (granted he is a lower wightclass than me) caps out at like 150. He has me beat on squats and DL by a bit, but he's 30kg behind me on the bench press. That's not normal.

Except I'm not a powerlifter. In fact, every powerlifter I've met has mediocre bench.

im a dyel faggot who does brosplit and trains chest once a week. Im repping 2pl8s on bench while powerlifter guys who train "for strength" are way heavier than me and benching 185 is a struggle for them

You're probably not doing a rep that would get you white lights.

that doesn't invalidate my post ( >>42753205 ), and also you probably wouldn't get a valid lift in competition
Most focus on squat and deadlifts to build their total faster. Bench almost always falls by the wayside until they get comfortable with their other numbers
