So my right knee hurts from being sprained (or having the ligaments torn) by my mum's dickhead ex when I was about 10. How do I strengthen it up? Because when I squat sometimes it can start to hurt and usually aches after a long day. I don't want to destroy my knee completely one day and be forced to stop lifting.

Holy shit are you me? My right knee also hasn't been the same since I got into a bike accident a while back. I've started lifting again but my knee definitely has a similar pain you described and I have to stop from fear of injury.
