Lifting on a Friday night as we speak.

For a fat fuck that can't do a single chin up, I've been using the lat pull down machine and increasing weights. The plan is to slowly match my very own 100kg.

Is this comparable and good practice for chin ups?

It's pretty uncommon for the pulldown machine and pullups to line up. The dead hang part of the pullups just isn't there on the machine, and it's really easy to swing down and use your lower body to get the weight moving.

Yeah, materials is a good field to get into. $30 on co-op is really nice. I was just a weird case, since I'm not an exact fit for most jobs and didn't have a great GPA (just shy of 3.0).

My course selection was varied (most people take a category like automotive and stick with it, but I wanted to take a variety), as was my co-op experience (automotive, medical devices, and access technology). Most employers don't really want someone who doesn't fit their needs exactly.

I did technically have an offer before graduation, but it was kind of shitty, so I didn't take it. $27/hr for expensive benefits, no overtime, a shit work environment, and having to live in upstate NY? Pass.

We'll see what the recruiters bring to the table, now that my resume is somewhere people actually see it.

Either one works desu, the difficulty of the sets matters more than the rep range. Iirc there were a couple studies that didn't find much of a difference between 5x5, 3x8, and 8x3 (or something like those) with regard to hypertrophy. Hip hinge is moving using your hips and legs while keeping your lower back rigid. Squatting and deadlifts are therefore both hip hinges if done correctly and without any change in lower back position (e.g. buttwink or rounding). Hinging at the hips does in no way hinder your quad development, as it is integral to squatting.

Thanks for the replies, I was about to take off from home.

Anyway, my gym doesn't have assisted chin ups machine (which is a meme anyway) but has 5 squat racks and plenty of rubber bands.

I found this setup in the SS book and it's probably what I'll start doing on top of the lat pulldown and curls.

What would my progression look like though? Every few session lower the band by 1 hole if I can do 3x10? After a while start using weaker rubber bands?

This is the BEST pull-up assistance. Machine assisted pullups assist the entire pull up while band assisted pull ups assist you most during the bottom and less during the top, which is the hardest part of the chin-up.

If I were you I'd do 3 sets are RPE 9 and increase each set by 1 rep each session until you reach 12 reps. Then I would try unassisted OR use a Wesker band.

That isn't true. The hardest part of the chin-up is the top portion, so by using bands you're training the top portion with higher intensity relative to the lower portion.

Once you have the lower portion down your full chin-up is way easier.

the general ''program'' is very simple, i just made a specific layout for that anon

you start by testing your max repititions, you can go to RPE 8 or 9 if you can accurately judge it too. Then you take your real max or estimated max reps and multiply that number by anywhere from 1.5 to 3 depending on your twink status or frequency, id say for now try 2. The number that comes out is the total reps of 'backoff' sets you should do after testing your max reps. You should do these in a very submaximal way, RPE 7 at most.

lets say i did 5 reps on my maxrep test. 5*2=10 so i have to do 10 total reps now. I would do these in a manner of 10 sets of 1 rep. Rest accordingly

i tested this on multiple people so far and it works. Dont know if it works with weighted chins

Because it doesn't. Severe lack of symmetry means it's inappropriate for bodybuilding. Obviously grossly inappropriate for oly lifting and crossfit, no debate necessary here. Maybe an argument could be made for its application in PL, but it has weaknesses in that it neglects upper back development, can create shoulder and elbow antagonist imbalances, neglects benching volume in favour of treating OHP as equally important and has a progression scheme which is too aggressive for anybody who wants to make a weight class. Of course none of this really matters in the long run except for maybe upper back development because nobody should run SS long enough to turn minor imbalances into injuries. In the first place.

Lads, I just started a cut a bit over a week ago and I'm already 10% weaker most of the time. I took half a week off intense training, did one solid session of incline bench with a top set of 8 @8 and 4 drop sets plus accessories, the next day did the same thing for squat but I was a bit weaker so I did less drop sets (2 or 3 don't remember), did some RDLs after and called it a day, took 2 days off, now I'm about 5-10% weaker on squat and bench again on my upper/lower days at the start of this week.

Should I keep the volume at a decent amount and let the weight drop a bit, or should I just grind out more difficult sets close to failure and drop the volume to 1-2 heavy working sets per competition lift per week?
