I've been lifting for 5 years and I am now at a point where I cannot bulk without gaining fat really fast because I am already carrying a lot of muscle naturally, therefore my body isn't primed to just automatically gain lots of muscle like it is as it does for a new lifter.


That said, I JUST started deadlifting recently, I can do 330x3x5, my goal is to hit 405x3x5.

Progress obviously isn't as fast as it could be due to the fact I cannot bulk properly now without gaining loads of fat, so how can I work around this issue? I don't want to take forever to progress my deadllift, but I also don't want to bulk as if I'm a 1st year lifter.

I'm 5'7 180 and 15% bodyfat, I'm pretty close to my natty limit right now after 5 years at this height/weight/bodyfat. I was 5'7 150 and 20%+ bodyfat when I started 5 years ago, so I'm 30lbs heavier and leaner.

Is it wrong for me to say that I kind of fucked myself over by not deadlifting from the very beginning 5 years ago?

I know people meme about "wasting noob gains" but I actually feel like I did.

I can NO LONGER get that "magic" noob gains effect by bulking hard and not gaining any fat and getting strong and just gaining muscle.


So in a way, I actually did waste my noob gains phase by leaving out deadlifts from my routine all this time until recently. I'm not seeing any "noob gains" tier progress on them, it's very slow, obviously because I'm not noob gains phase tier bulking.

that's not how it works

anyway, you're at 15% bf so you are already outside of the range you should be bulking and cutting in, get down to 10-12% and then bulk moderately (15% over TDEE) back to 15% bf while pushing your deadlift hard (do more volume, do deadlifts in some form twice a week)
