Hey Fasting Anon(s), y'all around?

So I'm a fatass fat as hamplanet. I have love 30 lbs so far and I've been having a fucking hard ass time battling hunger and low energy while dieting.

I took your advice and went to my GP for some bloodwork and got the results back.

He said that I am diabetic and my cholesterol is for shit. I'm also hypertensive.

I asked him about your fasting bullshit and he said that he can't recommend it professionally because he's not familiar with the protocol, but he agreed with your assertion for regular bloodwork if I'm going to do it. Saying he'd feel much safer that way. He said right now the fact that I have uncontrolled blood sugar is his only concern and getting me to lose body fat is the first goal. "However you can do it I'll get behind"

I think I'm going to go with your on/off schedule since it seems like it might work out for me better than long term fasting. I'm afraid I won't be able to do the 2weeks fasting, 2 weeks refeeds. Will one week cycles be as effective? How long until I see improvements in my blood sugar?

He gave me a glucose monitor and a package of 30 test strips. Should I be testing more than once a day when I'm fasting? How about when I'm eating?

When I do refeed what can I eat? Should I be cutting calories from my tdee when I do eat again?
>>
most of the people here who fast don't have diabetes, so you should look for a more specialised forum.

Fasting is not for fats who want to look aesthetic one day. If you have too much to lose and do it too fast, you'll be covered in a hideous skin cape of your former self. Do it slow, do it steady, fast to break plateaus. Good luck anon. Drink more water.

30lbs is a great start, good job on that. Before I can make any absolute assertions in response to your question about how long until you see improvements I'd need to know where you're sitting numberwise instead of just "I'm diabetic and hypertensive". I would also need to know your history. Individuals who have been obese and diabetic for longer take more fasting cycles to gain the same improvements as someone who hasn't been so obese or diabetic for so long. Numbers numbers numbers. Blood sugar, cholesterol, BP, Insulin, weight and body comp, etc.

But without that information I can tell you that a 1 week on and off schedule will be incredibly effective at improving your condition. It may not be AS effective as two week fasting periods, but it's better than going on exogenous insulin and a high carb diet like the diabetes association recommends. (speaking of which, if you're fasting then DO NOT take any blood sugar control medications your doc may have prescribed to you...Did he prescribe anything?)

In the people I've dealt with we generally see diabetes reversal at around a combined 8-12 weeks of fasting. Some see improvements before that and some have taken significantly longer. As long as your beta cells haven't gone kaput or have decreased function then you should eventually regain completely normal blood sugar control. Often this control is restored well before body composition gets below the obesity classification.

>I'm afraid I won't be able to do the 2weeks fasting, 2 weeks refeeds.
I can almost guarantee that once you reach the 1 week mark you'll find out you have no problem with the prospects of going a full 14 days. But do what you're comfortable with and take into consideration your individual circumstance. If you're outside sweating your balls off 5 days a week, then be smart and keep the fasts shorter, as a day or two at a time. If you're in a HVAC controlled office with an ergonomic task chair, then you can manage longer.

As to your glucose monitor, test once a day. Any more information than that in your case will be noise you can ignore. You'll want to test your morning blood sugar right after you wake up. While you're fasting this will be the highest reading of the day. Log it and monitor it don't worry about the absolute value of the reading, you're concerned with the TREND.

When you refeed eat all of the vegetables you want, unlimited amounts. eat moderate quantities of meat as close to the animal as possible (i.e. chicken breasts or hamburger, not sausages or deli meats). And ignore soft dairy and grains including pastas. You can eat whole fresh fruit if desired, but only as a treat/snack. Eat only during an 8 hour window of your choosing. do not eat or drink any calories during the other 16 hours. While you're doing this fasting/feeding cycle eat to satiety, don't bother counting calories or intentionally cutting. If you start getting full then stop eating regardless of how much is on your plate.

When you're refeeding then continue to monitor your blood sugar in the morning. indicate in your glucose log that these are following feeding days

I had a wonderful image pop into my head from this.

I've helped dozens of fat fucks lose metric tons of weight with extended duration fasting. None of them had anywhere near as bad of an excess skin condition as you're insinuating. The 440lb guy has some excess skin but it's hardly hideous.

The benefit of fasting in regards to weight loss is the extremely long autophagy periods which is quite powerful in regards to cleaning up the gunk laying around in the cells and taking care of shit the body doesn't need any more.

The only time I've ever seen obscenely excessive amounts of lose skin is on people who lost lots of weight while on a severe caloric restrictive diet where they lost the weight too fast as you suggest.

But to say that that kind of weight loss is metabolically identical to fasting weight loss is exceptionally short sighted.

Thanks for responding.

My blood pressure was 165/85
My cholesterol was 250
And my fasting glucose was 265. He said we weren't even going to bother with the response test because of how high it was.
I'm at 265 lbs.

Today is my second day of fasting and I feel like utter shit. I have a headache that won't quit and I feel shaky. It was bad enough this morning I called into work to use some of the 800 hours of PTO I have saved up.

You said in another three that days 3 and 4 are the worst? Should I just call in now? Is it always this bad when you restart a fast after refeeding?
>>
>>42687722
you're not in too bad of shape honestly. despite 265 being very high for a fasting glucose reading it's not the worst I've seen. I'd have to check my data when I get home but I'm pretty certain everyone I've helped with that sort of glucose reading recovered full function. It's when you get into the 300's you start seeing pretty significant beta cell dysfunction.

I'd be comfortable saying 8 weeks of fasting and you'll have no signs of metabolic syndrome and you'll be able to switch to a calorie restricted IF schedule 7 days a week for the balance of your cutting.

>days 3 and 4
Typically yes. Especially if you've never fasted before or were previously on a high carb diet. Your headache is from a lack of soda. Drink unsweetened freshly brewed green tea for caffeine if you want it. Coffee is ok too.

To help speed things up go for walks. Nice loooong walks. a minimum of 3 miles a day. This will help bring your blood sugar down and encourage fat metabolism. You can also do some light calisthenics during your fast as well to help burn up glycogen.

Once your body starts getting used to the famine periods you'll find you have no problem restarting a fast and by the second day you'll have no hunger issues.
>>
IF is much more effective and safer for people that are already at a healthy weight and not diabetic. This is because their body controls their blood glucose levels safely and their base metabolic rates are much lower than an overweight person, so their body is not affected as harshly.
>>
>>42687812
How should I track my glucose? Is there an app you reccomend?
>>
>>42687831
Well I'm not at a healthy weight AND I'm diabetic. Thanks for your fucking help.
>>
>>42687834
>app
Negatory. I've not found one that I'm happy with. But at the same time I haven't really looked. I've only been shown the ones that people have used and I have various issues with them

I'm an old-school excel guy. So excel the world is my philosophy.

>set up column A to be the date.
>set up column B to be the morning glucose reading
>set C7 to be "=AVG(B1:B7)" where B1-B7 are your seven fasting days.
>Set C14 to be "=AVG(B8:B14)" where B8-B14 are your seven feeding days.
>and so on

The ONLY data points you're really concerned about are the average morning glucose readings in column C. and how the feeding readings compare to the fasting readings.

The fasting readings will fall ahead of your feeding readings. Typically once your fasting readings start getting near the ~150 mark you'll start to see greater responses in the feeding readings.

When the fasting and feeding readings are both in the ~100 neighborhood then it's time to quit with the fasting and switch to IF16:8 with maybe a day or two of fasting if you want (I'm 12% body fat and still fast twice a week, I'm a true believer)

>>42687841
Just chill out. What he's saying is no different than me saying to stop fasting when your blood sugar issues are dealt with. There's literally no reason for someone without metabolic syndrome to fast for more than 1 or 2 days a week

I've gotta go finish painting the barn. I'll be back around 5 or 6 hours if you've got any more questions.
>>
>>42687080
In same boat minus the beetus....do Itermitte fasting. 18hrs off 6 hours on.while following keto.itll suck for a week or two but youll lose weight .low calorie 5 hour shots keep me alive ,well that and licking salt like an autistic horse when i get headaches.lost 56 lbs so far .

Good job Bond.

I'm looking forward to not being a fat fuck any more. I'm hoping this shit will get my hunger under control like Fasting Anon was promising.

That 30lbs was a lot of mental effort dealing with the constant incessant hunger.

>My blood pressure was 165/85
Sheeeit...
Google: hibiscus tea for blood pressure.
>>
>>42688373
His high blood pressure is a function of metabolic syndrome. More accurately from elevated insulin causing excess sodium retention.

If he were to test his blood pressure at the end of his one week fast it would already be lowered well into the pre-hypertension classification. Repeated periods of his fasting will lower his blood pressure as his glucose levels come under better control.

If OP were to start taking pharmaceutical or herbal interventions to his conditions now it would only amount to a confounding factor to control. He's had high blood sugar and blood pressure for years now and a few more months while he gets this shit under control won't kill him. Intervening with other therapies on top of fasting could lead to hypotensive episodes which could be dangerous. There's already a risk of de\creased parasympathetic response to position changes in those who are fasting leading to spells of light-headedness and possible fainting. There's just no point in adding to that risk.
