>listen to rippetoe's podcast
>he claims that endurance athletes should squat and deadlift because running is just a sub-maximum efforts will now be easier

i don't think it works that way
>>
>>42643920
It does but it's not the most efficient way of training for very long after beginning.
>>
That's a dumb broscience way to think about it but it's true that lifting improves performance for endurance athletes
>>
>>42643920
Endurance athletes actually DO squat and deadlift.
It's never about raw endurance, but always about strength/endurance. Even in a marathon, it's not about who can run more before collapsing, but about who can run 42.2kms FASTER.
To develop strength/endurance you first develop strength, and then take the extremely long road to leverage that into s/e, so yeah endurance athletes need to squat. Not much, but their programs usually include it in at least some phases.

I would love to see Rip run one mile.
>>
Rip is ridiculously dogmatic and out of touch, at some stage he completely stopped having the ability to analyse new facts or info and decided that whatever he'd anecdotally observed within his trainees over the years was the only possible way to look at lifting, in one of his videos he demonstrates 'the only way to properly barbell row' and its an explosive underhand grip row from the floor that would CLEARLY be putting most peoples lumbar in a compromised poistion (while explosively ripping weight off the floor) yet teaches it as if its gospel and the best back development exercise of all time, you can see the entire seminar fucking cringing

just a reminder we have a number of trips here who've out-totaled Rip's best lifts natty, and that he has never trained or coached a record-holding or otherwise hugely successful powerlifter
>>
>>42644667
There is nothing wrong with the way he showed the row, just as there is nothing wrong with moving Atlas stones.

The flat back meme has been taken too far.

to be fair even rippletits says he doesn't expect marathon runners to be squatting same numbers as an oly lifter, have no idea why OP made thread then again rippletits seems to be an easy source of (you)s .

austin baraki can squat 600 and dl 650 at around 195, those are impressive numbers.
>>
>>42644667
>that would CLEARLY be putting most peoples lumbar in a compromised poistion
and in the very same video he has said that he does not advise it for beginners.
Intermediate to professional lifters are more likely to understand good form and having a neutral lumbar section when bracing.
You are yet again another detractor who is taking him out of context, listen to the actual situation he teaches it, it's even in the first minute of that video.

those are great numbers but there are natty 74/83kg juniors hitting those lifts at ipf worlds now none of whom are associated with rip or starting strength, millions of lifters got strong without SS/TM or using any of Rips holy grail methodologies, note that doing fahves and adding weight to the bar was not invented by RIp
>>42644685
if you'd have ever looked at the anatomy of the spine you'd see that putting the sacral verterbrae under excessive/explosive flexion is a bad idea, im not just talking about 'muh flawless spinal extension from hip to neck'
>>42644754
unless you have tremedous flexibility in the hamstrings there are going to be lots of people whose proportions put them in a dangerous position for this exercise from the get go, you cant brace away your anotomy

I don't get your point here? Rip himself has stated multiple times that he is in the business of training novices and they are the bulk of his clientale.

Rip never claimed SS is the only way to get strong, he never claimed that doing 5's was invented by him nor progressive overloading, hell in his interview with Marty Gallagher you find out that even GOMAD is just something that old strong guys used to do.

Essentially he's just trying to pass the shit he learned from Starr and others to the new generation with tweaks here and there from his thousands of novices that he trained.

Also dunno your obsession with powerlifing he's helped with training Oly lifters in past he considers nowadays powerlifitng a trailer trash sport which it is.
>if you'd have ever looked at the anatomy of the spine you'd see that putting the sacral verterbrae under excessive/explosive flexion is a bad idea, im not just talking about 'muh flawless spinal extension from hip to neck'
And yet strongmen do Atlas stones with lumbar extension and hyper extension with no issues.

Do we have a race designed to see who can go the furthest before collapsing from exhaustion? That sounds like some hardcore shit. Everything I can think of involves a set distance or time
