I have to take care of my grandfather, who's got severe senile dementia. Do you know how heartbreaking it is to see the man who became your father figure (after dear ol daddy skipped town), the guy who taught you how to shave, how to drive, how to pick up ladies (outdated advice in this horrible age), how to cook, how to be a man, become a drooling retard? My mom and I had to replace the locks on the house, double sided deadlocks, just to make sure he doesn't wander off. My shared bathroom with him has nothing in it, no razor blades, no nail clippers. I have to hide my toothbrush and toothpaste after he thought my brush was a sponge and the toothpaste was soap.

We haven't had a good night's sleep in 5 years. None of his friends call, even though they're plenty alive. He sundowns now. He
screams wildly at the tv, then wanders into the backyard to pick up leaves in 100+ degree weather. Which he'll proceed to leave the leaves everywhere, making a huge mess. At one point, he was working outside in 3am, despite our backyard having no lights. He's a smoker, you know. So that means we have to sit there for an hour as he slowly drags off the cigarette because he nearly burned the couch when trusted with lighters. Do you know what it's like to see one of the nation's top contract negotiators to be so lost that he forgets he's smoking? Or to cook him a meal because he's getting into the dog food, but he's not actually hungry, he wanted something to drink.

The worst part is that he's trying his best to help, but he makes bigger messes. We've had to hide sponges because he's used them to clean off the backyard patio with. And then wash dishes with said sponges.

So fuck getting old.

You know what? I'm only 30 and life now is so much more awesome than it was when I was in my early/mid 20's. 2 years ago I was 24 and a 100 pounds of pure fat overweight. Over the past 2 years I've lost 30% of my body weight and massively improved my life through weight lifting. I have zero intention of stopping.

All my friends are bitching about getting closer to 30, but I'm in way better shape now than I was when I was 24. I'll be in way better shape at 35 than 24.

Fuck dude, If I make a life long and dedicated commitment to natty fitness I'll be in better shape in my sixties than I was at 24.

And life was still worth living at 24. Yeah I was fat and got winded walking up stairs, but I wasn't absolutely miserable. Life as a in shape 50/60 year old has to be better than that, so why wouldn't it be worth living?
