Thoughts on calisthenics? Juts got a pull-up bar and live right next to a park, I'm thinking of going for calisthenics only. Any tips?

It's good to get a nice starting body. Basically, it'll get you more /fit/ than 99% of the population and normies will think you're buff. Pullups and their variations are also awesome for blokes with bad backs.

Start with just regular chinups (palms facing inwards), pullups (facing outwards), dips, pushups and bodyweight squats. Don't worry too much about abs as pullup excersices tend to work them out pretty well.
Close grip chinups work your biceps morethan your back, close grip pullups work your forearms more, wide grip pullups will give you a nice V shaped back, dips and diamond pushups will work your triceps a lot.

It deloads and stretches out you spine. If you're in it for the bad back, deadhangs every day are the way to go. Just grab on and hang there for as long as you can.

Pound for pound, gymnasts are the strongest/best athletes. You won't find many guys with big bench numbers who could do even 50 true pushups.

Average people absolutely 100% cannot do or get near to what gymnasts do. And it speaks nothing for calisthenics.

Also is a plank the best starter core bodyweight exercise?

Also do handstand pushups for shoulders. Or a least start the progressions.

Just continue to do man pushups but do them on an incline, like a step or something, morning and night. Planks are good for your core , better than nothing anyway.

Do them weighted once you can, and do leg work that isn't calisthenics, it's kind of shit.
