Not a dentist/hygienist but here is what I have found:
Brush gently, soft or extra soft toothbrush. 2min max, twice per day max. Use low rda toothpaste (Sensodyne pronamel is what i use). Avoid any toothpaste that says "whitening" in the name. Wait 30 minutes after eating before brushing (your mouth ph is acidic after eating, makes it easier to damage enamel). Be careful with acidic right rinses like Listerine. Go to the dentist every 6 months so you can catch all of this early. Regular cleaning will also hopefully help prevent gum recession (the exposed tooth is weaker and will abrade more easily). Be gentle when flossing to avoid recession as well. Also, dont snack too much or have an overly acidic/sugary diet.

OH, remember to replace your toothbrush often (every 1-3 months or as soon as it shows wear). I really fucked up my teeth by using a worn out toothbrush for too long
