is it actually true that you need to eat more than 2000 calories to get any stronger. i have been going to the gym for two months now and the weights don't feel any lighter and i can't lift more weight. when i try more weight i can't cleanly rep and can't finish the sets. have i been wasting my time for two months.

If you're not eating enough and getting decent sleep you might as well not even go to the gym. All you're going to get is injuries.

For however often you sleep a night (around 8 hours), add +2 hours for a day after weightlifting. Add even more if you've been sleep deprived before going to the gym.

Also, eat a lot more protein. Especially after working out.

Isolation exercises are for muscles that don't get hit in compounds, or for supporting muscles that need to be grown to increase stability in compound lifts.

Biceps are used in literally every upper body pulling movement, you don't need to hit them separately

You will never get big biceps doing compounds. Use isolation exercises if a muscle is not put under enough stress during a compound exercise to develop a complete physique.
