Am I supposed to be sore after a workout (my first)? It's not acute pain, just soreness

No pain, no gain. Gotta do whatever it takes, even 8-hour arm workouts to confuse the muscle

I was just doing bodyweight squats but I'm pretty fat so hopefully it's because I'm out of shape

As a beginner, you should feel a vague soreness but it should never be painful. Be careful about stretching. I'm sure someone will call me a retard, but I don't think stretching is as important as people think it is. I think if you warm up with a lighter weight or body weight if you're brand new before heavy movements it's fine. Stretching doesn't really prepare your muscles to be put under a work load.

It's always worst in the first week of lifting, after a few more weeks it'll become pretty much unnoticeable.
