/adv/ isn't responding to my post so I wonder if you guys can shed some light on my concerns.
I'm 25 years old, 6" and 195 lbs. Online BMR calculators say that (on a desk job) I need to eat about 2300 calories to maintain that.
I've been eating around 1700 calories for the last few days and seem fine with that amount, so can i continue to do so without burning out, losing muscle mass or suffering a slowed metabolism? How much lower could i go before the aforementioned issues start happening?
I've never really dieted before so forgive any ignorance.

>burning out
Completely subjective. You should be losing a bit over a pound a week at your current deficit. Is that not enough?
>losing muscle mass
Unless you lift you probably don't have much muscle mass to lose anyway
>suffering a slowed metabolism

Can we use that more? So many pill-popping, biologically misinformed housewives thinking that they're the new Mrs. Clean because they "eat paleo"

you have no muscle to lose, continue that deficit.
your metabolism will adjust a bit to your lower energy intake but it will get back up once you're done shedding fat.
use the qtddtot if you have quesitons in the future

you're not dieting, you're making lifelong changes starting now. stop drinking soda and stop eating sugary processed shit/fast food.

BMR calculators assume your weight is lean mass (muscle not fat) so your BMR should actually be lower than 2300.

Read the fucking sticky. You need to eat more (>2500 for the gains) and start lifting weights.
