The weak point is your arms and grip, but hypothetically yes, it's mechanically pretty similar to a squat.

What if you put your feet in the handholds and pass the band over the neck?
Anyway, elastic resistance is good for a lot of shit, but it's not consistent during the lift.
If it 'weights' 3 or 4 plates at the top, how much would it be at the bottom?
And if it was 3plates at the bottom, how much at the top?

you'd probably have to run the band through a pipe so the pressure is spread across your neck/shoulders instead of just your neck
