I blend up a protein shake every day with veggies, whey, unsweetened almond milk, and a tiny bit of fruit. Lately, I throw in a few raw mushrooms as well, which I purchase from a supermarket and wash thoroughly. I blend everything until it's super smooth and viscous.
I just read conflicting evidence that consuming raw mushroom is bad for you. What does /fit/ say about this?
I eat raw mushrooms like I eat pussy, I don't.

If you're blending mushrooms and veggies you should just make a soup or purée. Sauté some onion, celery, carrots, and garlic. Throw in some veggie stock, canned tomato chunks. Let it cool to room temp. Throw in blender. Season with salt and pepper. I guess you could add mushrooms somewhere too, but don't waste tasty savory ingredients on a goddamn smoothie. Make a good ass veggie soup. I'd probably use chicken stock instead of veggie stock but I'm not a vegan

eating raw mushrooms is about as effective as eating sawdust.
Mushroom cells have chitinous. They're much harder for the gut to break down when raw. Cooking helps break these structures down which enables easier digestion.
In short the fragments of mushrooms are going right through you giving you no benefits. If you want nutrition from mushies then cook them with your food, otherwise you're wasting your money.
Agaratine which is found in lots of different raw mushrooms causes cancer in mice. it's been shown to be mutagenic and is broken down by the kidneys into toxic metabolites.
At the epidemiological level mushrooms are associated with some good stuff- stimulating antibody production, anti-breast cancer cells, anti-inflammation- but there's nothing specifically looking at whether raw mushrooms are associated with cancer risk..
