What's the verdict on ankle/wrist weights? I know jogging with ankle weights is a big nono because it can cause damage to muscles and ligaments over time, but wrist weights are very common in boxing exercises and other martial arts as well. Jogging with wrist weights while stretching your arms burns an astronomical amount of calories.

They kinda work, though they don't give you progressive overload unless you regularly increase the weight. Plus generally the direction of force is wrong, e.g. punching with wrist weights adds force downward, not towards you like you'd want for more powerful punches.
also ankle weights are stupid, your knee/hip joints were not designed for tension (ie pulling-apart forces), only for compressive (pushing-together) forces

So you're saying you shouldn't do straights but uppercuts instead? I've seen guys shadowboxing with 20lb dumbbells doing punches in all directions.

They also provide resistance in the direction you're punching as you require more force to move a greater mass

The smaller ones are exceptionally good and cheap for using as microplates. Shit for everything else.
