Is there a big difference in doing cardio prior to lifting? That's my usual routine. Am I doing it wrong?
If I'm to do cardio, I typically do it after lifting so as not to tire myself out before lifting heavy.

I've always worked off what was more important that day/week/training phase and started the session with that. Although if your "cardio" is 10 mins walking on the treadmill like a douchbag I don't have any advice for you.
