Why the fuck do people go to the gym to do 5*5 or 3*5 sets ? It's like you enjoy resting for 90% of your workout. You need to rest at least 20 minutes to complete a 5*5, and that's only with 5 minutes of rest time, some people take double that time.
Meanwhile you can get better hypertrophy by taking 2 minutes of rest between your sets and doing 8 to 12 reps.

Shu shu gainsgobling
>>42481733
5x5 and 3x5 are for strength gains, not hype trophy
>>42481733
why would you need 5 minutes of rest and 15 minutes of actual lifting to complete a 5x5?
>>42481981
5 minutes of rest per set. you rest 4 times to compelte a 5x5, that's 20 minutes bare minimum. For 3 minutes of actual lifting
>>42481733
>not resting for 30 seconds and doing 32-48 reps a set
you won't makeit
>>42481995
90 second rests are the standard
>>42481733
>high rep compound lifts
Why even bother yo
>>42481733
>do 5*5 for strength not hypertrophy
>Rest 3 min max
>Read opening post
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
>>42481995
bruh i do 5*5 with a minute rest max, there is literally no reason to take huge rest breaks. and 2 minutes for a set of 8-12 is excessive.
>>42482023
When you start lifting big boy weights you're gonna need more rest than 1 minute.
>>42482023
You can't lift 90% of your 1rm for 5 reps with one minute of rest
Your 5*5 training is actually worthless
>>42482041
yeah but all the massive stronk dudes on youtube have shit tons of volume too. including all the PLers and strongman
>>42482016
5*5 should be done with 85/90% of your 1 rep max, 3 minutes isn't enough time to recover. You should increase the weight and take more time to rest
>>42481733
>Meanwhile you can get better hypertrophy
But nowhere near the strength gains.
I was doing 3x5 and 5x5 with 385-405 on squats. Was impossible without 5-15 minutes of rest between sets, but it also meant I kept going up 10 pounds each workout.

my bad i misunderstood you guys were talking about just about strength training, i do 5x5 for hypertrophy and do it as the start of every workout before braking down into smaller sets. my comment was in regards to people like you who waste time in the gym "resting"
>>42482066
Yea it is fuckboy. After 2 minutes of rest your muscles are as recovered as they are going to get without an extended period of repair after you're done lifting
5x5 is volume work anyway
So is 2x5, 1xAMRAP
