Should I always go high weight low reps? Right now I'm alternating between high weight 5 rep sets, and lower weight 10 rep sets weekly. I just started working out and it seems the general consensus is that higher weight lower reps is better.

beginner: just go to the gym regularly, do 3 sets of 10-12 whatever.
intermediate: start basic pyramid sets, 1 warmup 20 reps, increase weight as reps decrease: 15 reps, 10 reps, 5 reps, 10, 15, 20.
advanced: exhausting pyramid sets, 20 reps, 15, 10, 5, 3, 1, 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 5, 10, 10, 10, 15, 15, 15, 20. that's not a typo. at this point, workouts are 2, 3, 4 hours.
