Once a gay guy at my gym approached me. He started by asking me some pointless question about whatever lift i was doing. Then he said he had been "seeing me around" quite a bit which is probably gay code for "i like looking at you." I got uncomfortable and ended the conversation, but i wasnt offended and i think if your target is more receptive and keeps the conversation going with you then he's probably gay/interested.

This. It might be a little lower than 1 in 50 at a gym, but the odds are still going to be overwhelmingly against you and they'll be more likely to turn violent on you if you're wrong.
