Anyone try getting fit after heart surgery? It's been a year since mine. Doc says I should only do "light lifting". Lost near 35 lbs since mid May and started getting things for a home gym.

See a sportsdoctor, do an intake.

Doubt you'll get much health over here, this isn't a common surgery among young people which is the predominate group over here.

Read up on studies, ask a few doctors, sportsdoctor as mentioned.

Best of luck, hope you'll be fine.

Yeah definitely a good idea, my cardiologist gives me really vague and unhelpful advice on exercise like "don't do weights with more than 50 lbs anon"
>>
>>42441381
I know that feel, kind of. I had a less intensive but still major surgery and I'm just now trying to /makeitagain/. Lost 40 pounds exactly.

I wish you luck. Just promise us you'll never give up. I'll be rooting and praying for you.

Kinda sounds like you need to look around for a different Doctor, vague non-answers like that would be unacceptable to me. He's either sugar coating something he feels you don't want to hear, he genuinely doesn't know, he doesn't care, or he's afraid to give you the okay and then be wrong later which could open him up to a lawsuit

Thanks anon, just getting back on my feet and going back to school, only had to take 4 months off from my part-time job. Once I had the strength/energy to exercise and mental fortitude to start losing weight I did and I'll keep going.

He's probably just repeating what the literature told him is my guess. So he doesn't know really. He said no one has ever died from lifting that he knows of, but the scar tissue in my heart is something I shouldn't put excessive strain on. This was my 3rd heart surgery, the other two were when I was a newborn.
>>
I imagine your results will be dependent on how they repaired your pectoral muscles. I certainly wouldn't get under anything heavy for at least a year. I had an arterial graft after destroying my arm and it was years before it could keep up.

for a split second i thought that was a cokc

Buddy of mine had heart surgery, and had to have a pacemaker put in. Doctors told him not to lift at all, but after a few months he said to hell with it, and started lifting heavy. He didn't seem to have any problems.

I had open heart surgery (to fix an aneurysm) and I had to stop lifting. I got the same vague answers. It seems the general consensus is anywhere from "maybe, ask this other guy" to flat out "It might end your life".

Sucks, but apparently cardio is okay for me.

Yeah, although it was a fair bit of time ago. Had heart surgery (plus shitloads of complications) at 13 years old and am now 20, started lifting about one year ago, making sick gains.

Also, doctors know jack shit about lifting heavy, unless they themselves lift heavy.
You should ask direct questions, such as "can I stress my CNS or is it dangerous", "if I were to gain more muscle mass, would it put too much stress on my heart", etc.

Nice scar though
