Squats I'd say is a prime example of this being incorrect.
But more or less every single exercise done for strength and not size should be done at less than 10reps.
If you're able to do 10reps and are going for strength you should put more weight on the bar.
Deadlift is another prime example of this.
If you can do ten reps of incline bench or squats, you're not lifting heavy enough.

Can't argue with hypertrophy.
Size is all about those magical 8-12 at a high volume.
Always remember though volume is key. It's still gotta be tough repping out those last 2 reps.
