Went to West-Africa last year (there's a few threads on /trv/ and it's archives of the voyage I undertook with a fellow /trv/ler), and got to train in some genuine ghetto gyms. A few observations:

>few overweight people in general
>very limited equipment
>low weight high rep training is the norm as a result
>lots of volume, train every day (ten sets of bench each day every day? sure!)
>knowledge of proper form or programming is rare
>roids are usually simply not available, good luck finding a source - we once travelled through three countries looking for something as simple as contact lens solution
>they're very explosive even without weight training - trained some Judo as well there
>strong upper body, comparatively weak lower body
>these guys get buff as fuck
