>Go into gym yesterday to do back
>Oh boy time for some deads
>Guy next to the squat rack I just took is doing trap bar deadlifts with about 350 or so
>He is really shredded but he is struggling hard with 345, and has belt+wraps
>I warm up then load up 405 to begin 5x5
>I finish two sets and notice he is snearing at me in the mirror
>Disregard him
>He finishes his lifts with the trap bar and approaches me
>Says that I shouldn't deadlift 405 without a belt because its super heavy and I'm going to fuck my back up permanently
>Tell him I don't think its that heavy for me, and that my back has been fine
>He literally says "You know I hate stubborn fuckers like you, you just think you know, until you hurt yourself" and walks away
Uh... what?
Is deadlifting without a belt really that serious? This guy was seriously upset for my well being.
Should I be belting up for 405 /fit/?

I don't bother with a belt for deads, but I'd suggest using one after 5 plates if you're starting to hunch or lose form.

You should be killing yourself for posting a shit thread.
If your form is not falling apart, which I doubt it is if you can do 5x5 at 405, you have no reason to belt.
The belt isn't there to prevent injury, its to give you something to press your abs into to stabilize yourself, and help you lift heavier.
He's just pissed that he's a manlet with a receeding hairline who can't surpass you, kakarot
