is bulk and cut a meme?
this guys says that you don't need a caloric surplus to build muscle. You can eat at maintenence, be in a positive hydrogen state, sleep well, work out no more than 40 minutes and here you go, you can gain muscle and stay lean for all the time

makes sense in my retarded uneducated mind

why would you need to eat at a caloric surplus when your body has calories stored as fat already
>>
>>42401122
Because your body wants to keep its fat
>>
>>42401115
Don't know what to believe, so much different information. From personal experience though, I found it much easier to gain mass on a caloric surplus.
>>
I've made generous gains at maintenance

Just try it out
>>
>>42401115
>positive hydrogen state
Surely you meant nitrogen.
And yeah, in theory this approach should work, but in practice it's much slower than the bulk/cut cycle. So it's about efficiency, and this guy seems to favor a long term, slow and safe approach as opposed to a quicker one.

no, not a meme

dirty bulking and gaining 50lbs of lard is a meme, but bulking on a moderate (500) caloric surplus and then cutting to get leaner is the accepted way of doing things for a reason, you really won't be gaining muscle at maintenance (""""recomp""") once you have been training for a while

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pkbrTpKaj4
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/general-philosophies-of-muscle-mass-gain.html/

recomping works well for novices or early intermediates but that's about it, and even those groups would get the same amount of muscle quicker with bulking and cutting

all those old fucks like Jim Wendler and Rippetoe are not memeing you when they keep telling you to eat in a caloric surplus to get big and strong, this is universally understood among experienced lifters
>>
>>42401115
you don't need to gain fat to gain muscle, period. obv when on like 1000 cal deficit, it is hard to build muscle, even when 50% of calories is protein.
>>
>>42401147
so you give it more?
>>
>>42401147
yeah, and if you do resistance training, then you are telling your body that you need muscles more than fat reserves.
>>
>>42401115
Calorie surplus is literally the only way to gain muscle. Even steroids long term can't overcome this.

It is absolutely proven beyond a doubt and been confirmed anecdotally about 8 billion times.

Don't question the basics.

in the video he literally says to bulk you fucking retard

eating at a small surplus IS bulking
>>
>>42401115
one thing you have to keep in mind is that jeff has been working out for decades like a professional and has everything in check.
>>
>>42401147
>imagine being retarded as this poster
>>
>>42401172
>500
>moderate

500 is the absolute maximum surplus you should be bulking at.
>>
>>42401115
well yeah, if you're joocy as fuck you can build muscle and lose fat at maintenance like Jeff.
>>
>>42401115
You bulk so that your body burns carbs/fat instead of protein.

Your body always has disassociated proteins floating in the bloodstream. The body is able to burn these proteins for energy (catabolic metabolism). But ideally, you use the proteins to gain muscle (anabolic pathway). So you eat surplus calories in an attempt to save the proteins from being spent as energy.
>>
The only reason people bulk and cut is because it's easier than counting out exact meals to eat every single day and maintaining a perfect macro and caloric balance to achieve the same amount of progress. Bulking = 0% chance you could possibly be missing the nutrients you need.
>>
>>42401115
No, recomp is a meme.
