I decided to stop being a fat piece of shit and picked up running today. I read that I should run on a track field or grass so I don't fuck up my legs. After running on a track, my shins hurt something fierce. Is the track I ran on shit, or is this normal for first time runners? I'm about 30 lbs overweight if it helps.
It is normal. How long did you run for? You really gotta ease into running if youre new to it and overweight, check out the couch to 5k app. Look into running shoes as well. Running is the goat though, keep at it and you will achieve enlightenment

Thanks friend, was actually doing the couch to 5k thing. Had to walk some of the run sessions because it felt like my heart was trying to jump out through my throat, but I'll keep at it till I do it proper. Might be the running shoes, just picked up a random pair that felt nice. You have a particular brand to recommend?
Tbh running is useless if you don't change your diet

this. Weight loss is more diet than exercise

Look up 'shin splints'. I also picked up running a week ago (and I'm not even close to being fat), and have the same issues. I'm currently working on my form and even considered to make a thread for it, but I looked it up and that seems to be it?
I found stuff like this: http://strengthrunning.com/2010/07/how-to-get-rid-of-shinsplints/
It seems solid to me, and I'll try it out to see if it helps. Does anyone here know how long it'll take to get your body used to running again? Like, to the point you won't have this issue anymore?

While this is true, running will help to change your lifestyle to more "healthy" one and has more benefits than just losing weight. And the runners high + chill tunes + a sunset is the best feeling in the world
