Start with Weighted Pull-Ups overload, do 3-5 sets of 5 reps. Focus on just getting as strong as possible, don't worry about volume here. This will take care of all of your strength based bodily needs for vertical pulling, including strengthening stabilizing muscles and all that other fancy stuff for achieving maximal strength.
After that then just do high volume work with Pull-Downs, DB Rows, use this as your hypertrophy.
That's the best way, in my honest opinion. You get the best of both worlds, and you don't over-do it either, you get a nice balance of each stat.
