You'll get /fit/ in basic, and it's easy to maintain after if you have the drive, but pt in active duty is a fucking joke unless you're combat arms. I've seen soldiers come into my unit and gain 50+ pounds in 6 months because other than the hour of "exercise" they don't do anything besides eat fast food and sit in their room avoiding work.

Speaking from experience, if you don't have the drive to stay in shape, you won't. You'll get out of basic in pretty good shape, because that's all you need to pass basic, but maintaining that or improving upon it is largely on you; there's plenty of out of shape soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen out there. You will PT but it is kind of a joke. What MOS are you looking at doing?
