I think I read:

as heavy as you can lift, pushing limits
>focus on strength
more focusing on reps than on increase in weight
Is this true in its core?

and doing 30 reps per set with lower weight would be more focused on looking big?

Yep, but strengh is more like 4-6 reps and hypertrophy (looking big) is 8-12.
You should balance the weight so that depending on what ur working, you end up in theses rep ranges. Good luck on your lifting journey
