Is it possible to maintain gains when you stop lifting weights but eat the same amount of calories you consumed when you were lifting?
No
Tdee decreases the more you limit training.
You'll lose less lbm sure, but 99% of the weight you gain will be body fat

is that why football playing chads after high school and college become fat?
when they get older, they still have that athelete diet (tons of calories) but dont workout so they mostly gain fat and lose muscle

Yup. I have a buddy who played hockey in the top junior league (Yuropoor) and was a solid 120kg being 1.90m (6'4 or something).
Legit Monster with almost all muscle.
After quitting he kept his eating habits and is now the same weight bust mostly fat.
Still a strong fucker though.
