I do the stationary cycle or the rowing machine. USed to do rope when I boxed, and there is a girl at my gym who goes ham on rope, it's pretty cool

They're both great cardio, but imo skipping is a lot easier on your joints. You should do all different types of cardio though, like swimming and cycling, all the kinda shit. Treat cardio the exact same as strength training. You need progressive overload. You could even treat it like concurrent periodization, where you rotate the exercises every week or so to continue making progression.

Running is more strenuous than rope, but rope is pretty close if you're doing it right. If running fuks up your knees, so will jumping rope. You have bad knees, stick to swimming or punching bag.
