When I started buzzing it (at about 20) my barber predicted that eventually I'd take a razor to it as that is what happens with quite a few that go down that path. He was right, 3 months afterwards I took a razor to it, now its 10 years later and still can't let it grow back, partly because it itches like a goddamn beard does in the early stages.

I just tell them to cut it however they want. It usually comes out looking great.

in my town its 40 bucks to get a haircut, thats why i learned to cut my own hair, it takes me 45 minutes of pulling my own hair and cutting it with a blade but it looks just as i want it to look and its free

Haircuts are the biggest rip ever. Hairdressers will always cut it too short so you will be back in 4-6 weeks when the blends have grown into the dreaded "clumps".

They use scissors not because they are any better but so you don't get any bright ideas of doing it yourself. If you like the idea of short-medium length then buy yourself a $20 feather razor (with guard) from a shaver shop and learn via YT how to "section" hair properly. Then it's just a matter of using your front-facing camera to verify that sectioning.

Find a model with your EXACT headshape and hairline and try to replicate. Gandy is king of the eggheads and even though it's an advance cut he only has about 10 sections.

I unironically go to a place like this. Full of nothing but men. Two white barbers for the white guys and one black barber for the black guys. They are straight up about that. I cut my own hair 3/4 on top 3/8 on sides

The result is not some amazing swagfagalicious haircut but I also don't look like some unkempt mongoloid. And it's free and I don't have to drag my autistic ass to the barber and make awkward small talk. It's a win across the board for me.
