6'3" and just under 220 rn, down 40 some lbs, how much longer do I keep cutting? 170? 180? 190?
Been almost 3 months already.
>>
>>42252840
It's up to you. I'm personally cutting from 265 to 180 lbs (6'4 height).
>>
5'9" Male 82kg

I eat 1500kcal a day with low carb, low fat, high protein macros and in check sodium. Why the fuck am I not hungry. I used to eat 10 times what I eat now, but I feel like I could go even lower without a problem.
>>
>>42253196
because your diet isn't garbage now.
>>
>>42253196
>check sodium
How much sodium is too much? I think i might be talk too much of this stuff.
>>
>>42253224

Just go by daily recommended value. Too much can cause you to retain water.
All the people here that talk about gaining a lot of weight after 1 cheat day and then losing it really fast is because of a spike and subsequent decrease in sodium
>>
For those who made it, are the final 10 kilos the hardest

Because it sure fucking feels like it
>>
>>42253299
Haven't really made it yet, but yeah. I just started maintaining randomly and didn't have the discipline to cut more consistently.

So i just started lifting and eating maintenance instead lol
>>
Do you ever feel like you can feel your fat being chewed up by your body? I used to feel really pudgy all over but after a days lifting the skin starts to feel more taught.

Maybe I'm imagining things.
>>
>>42253403
Fat leaves your body through your breath, so no it's not getting "chewed up".
What you're feeling is a pump.
>>
>>42253419
How does that work?
>>
>>42253428

I went from 370 lbs down to 230 and then just lost all motivation for almost a year.
I finally started eating right again and lost 5 lbs already. Boy, does it feel good to eat right again. I guess the silver lining here is knowing I didn't shove food in my mouth like a hog in that time and gain a ton of weight back like a lot of people apparently end up doing.

Hey /fat/ I'm a new poster here. I've been following Eric Berg's videos on YouTube and wondering if they're of any help. I've been getting my body used to eating within a 6-time-frame of which I will only eat two meals and then fasting for the rest of the day. I'm intending to follow through and reduce the time window to one hour. Is this a good way to go about losing weight?

Its not extreme pain but it was noticable during my run. And it didn't make me want to stop. Is this normal for people who haven't ran in years?
>>
>>42253880
As long as you are eating under your TDEE still it's fine. What you are doing is called Intermittent Fasting.

You'd lose weight if you just ate under TDEE, but some people find it easier with fasting.

>>42253901
Definitely normal. The first week or two are always the worst when it comes to soreness, at least in regards to lifting, not sure about running though since it can be harder on your joints.

You should be fine unless you weigh quite a bit
>>
>>42253955

Ah yes. I just plugged in my meals and I apparently I'm under. I'm eating less in general with this tighter window so I'm probably most likely hitting under my TDEE.

I don't really want to get into calorie counting and constantly plugging in my meals and snacks and recording my walks in MFP. Intermittent fasting seems a lot simpler.

Also on a somewhat related note: Can anybody recommend vaping as an appetite suppressant? I'd like to enjoy something /comfy/ while I'm at my computer shitposting and playing vidya that won't set off a glycemic response and I thought vaping would suit.

35kg lost. Still more 15kg to go.

We're all gonna make it, bros.
>>
>>42254129
Counting calories is absolutely necessary. It is very easy to go over and if you go over your TDEE it wont matter if you are doing IF. You don't have to do it forever, but if you want to lose weight you need to for a couple months at least in order to get a good idea of different thing's calorie contents.
Don't track walks either, over estimating amount of calories you burn during the day is the number one cause of fatasses thinking they should be losing weight but aren't.

Black coffee is a /comfy/ as it gets
>>
>>42254148
You clearly are losing gut, dumbass. It doesn't happen all at once. It's not like you're gonna lose 100% of your gut once the scale reads 200 lbs or something.

Read the sticky, fat and weight sheds from everywhere in fairly even amounts simultaneously. Your gut will be gone when most of your other fat is gone.

Guys, when I look at myself in the mirror or even a progress pic regularly I get used to seeing that image/perspective and my mind starts making me think I'm not that fat.

It's difficult to explain.

I was videochatting with my friend last night and I saw myself on the video and was like holy shit I am out of shape. I look at myself in the mirror and progress pics every day, but I was still somehow delusional about how out of shape I am. The problem is that when I get used to seeing myself in the mirror or progress pic it's like my mind filters out the out-of-shapeness. When I see myself in a different context/unexpectedly I see myself how others see me and realize that I am much fatter than my mental image of myself.

How do I get around this? I objectively know that I'm fat, but how do I get my mind to change my mental image of myself to a fat person? Like I said, this is a difficult thing to explain, but I'm sure I'm not the only one, right?
>>
>>42254224
I think you're too worried about nothing. Just step on the scales daily and be objective. It sounds like you're just pleased with any progress you've made, which is fine. It should server as motivation to keep it up and look even better.
>>
>>42254159

I've been counted every other day and I'm under. Like... in the realm of 900cals under.

>Black coffee is a /comfy/ as it gets

Black coffee is nasty and bitter and I don't want to stay awake all night. I want something /comfy/ for when I'm at home unwinding. The stimulant affect also seems like it'd increase stress and cortisol which kills the point.

But I might consider some sort of herbal tea.

Consensus on honey? Fatty here who managed to cut out all regular soda and energy drinks by going to sugar free. Lost weight. I'm now wanting to kick all forms of soda and energy drinks. Especially after reading into artificial sweeteners.

Im doing well abstaining from drinking diet soda. I replaced it with iced water with a lime/lemon cut up and thrown into the metal bottle I drink out of. However I still work long shifts and need caffeine. I intend to have coffee but sugar is a no. As is other fake sweeteners.

TL;DR would a teaspoon of creamer and teaspoon of honey in my coffee everyday hurt a fatty on a cut?
>>
>>42254781
Don't make a habit of eating honey. Even if you have fastidious oral hygiene, ingesting honey routinely for a long time will cause a shitload of cavities. Learn to take your coffee black or tea unsweetened.

I'd say if you want junk food, perhaps making baked sweet potato fries would help with that. It's a more starchy food, which we often start craving, but it's not as many calories as regular potatoes, has a boatload of vitamin A and it can help with that need for something sweet and salty at the same time.

I usually just try to eat a lot of veggies. I made some homemade hummus and dipped red pepper, celery and cucumbers in.

take it from a former fatty: never give up, cheat days are called cheat days because those days you are cheating yourself. If you need cheat days you are not adopting a new diet, you are just dieting. If you want pizza, make room for it in your daily allowance. There is no reason to ever cheat.

Check these things in this order
1. Do your long term goals (months to year) and short term goals (week to weeks) match what is generally conceived as possible (1-2 pounds lost per week, after initial water weight purge)?
2. Does your target (daily objectives such like 1,500 calories consume) match your goal? Estimate the number of calories you think you should be burning each day using online calculators. Calculate what you think you should be losing each week based on your consumption.

Based on this you can know the problem is one of two things.

1. Your target was never sufficient to achieve your goals.
2. Your estimation of your target success is not accurate.

Problem 1 is fixed by either setting a new target or adjusting your goals.

Problem 2 is harder, but can generally be fixed by taking your current estimated number of calories consumed and multiplying it by 1.1. This will better account for error in calorie calculation (people almost always underestimate). Reevaluate after 2 weeks minimum. If it still isn't working try 1.2. If that doesn't work you have a fundamental problem with your method of tabulation and you need to relearn how to count calories.

I had been measuring too low and getting my hip bones and lovehandles instead of my waist. Bunch of shit online says to measure right at your navel but that doesn't work when you've lost ~100 pounds and have a droopy gut.

numerical goals in the context of fitness are critical because it's entirely objective.

for example if your current weight is more than your goal you know you need to keep working on it.

there really is a dissonance between what you feel about yourself in the mirror (the subjective) and the weight on the scale (the objective).

last week, i was around 86kg (6ft) and i looked at myself in the mirror and for whatever reason i felt really good desu. coming from 100kg, i genuinely thought i looked attractive. however a few days ago, now around 85.something, i looked in the mirror and i felt so fat and disgusted with myself. my stomach, my love handle, my double chin, i wanted all of that to go.

anyway my point is both the scale and mirror matter. no one things rules, and everything should be considered thoroughly and holistically.

Jesus fuck this is why nutrition science is terrible.

>10 overweight nonsmoking adults (3F/7M)

> BMI: 27.4 (2.0) kg/m

> diet with caloric content restricted to 90% of their resting metabolic rate at the time of screening

>Daily calories were divided among breakfast (25%, 8:00–9:00), lunch (30%, 12:30–13:30), dinner (35%, 18:30–19:30) and an evening snack (10%, 21:00)

The big things I didn't see in this paper, (though I just skimmed it so if someone more thorough has seen it please correct me): Macros. No mention of protein intake.

Body fat percentage.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15615615

Suggests an upper limit of 31 calories per pound per day for calories produced by fat.

Without knowing the body composition of the participants, or the diet, it's hard to tell if this is lack of sleep, lack of protein, cutting too deep, or some combination of all three.

I was a bit harsh and I apologise for that
the take home was that I was going to be spending the next 6-10 hours alone and bored, sleep isn't relevant at all. I just thought people would deduce that without me having to spell it out
I shall remember for the future though

the only variable they changed in the two weight loss phases was the sleep - yes there are other factors, but this study demonstrates sleep IS a factor, every single data point confirms that

250 lb 5'9" guy here. I'm just starting out taking my health really seriously and I'm wondering what % cut I should do from my TDEE. I want to lose fat and gain muscle I don't really care about losing lbs but I want to look and feel better. Whats a good % deficit for what I want to do?

Also online calculators say I need a ridiculous amount of protein. How on earth am I supposed to eat 260g of protein in a day?

I ate 360 grams of chicken, 2 cups of rice, and a half pound of broccoli for supper. My plate was literally overflowing with food.

Never buying chicken again, didn't know 360 grams was that much. Cottage cheese seems much more efficient.

I've gone from about 240lbs to 199 in the past 2.5 months. I have been running and walking a lot and taking in about 1.9k calories and 200g protein a day.

I feel like I need to start lifting, I'm pretty much dyel and don't know where to start. should I buy a weight bench?

You don't need 260 grams of protein a day, half of that is fine.

How does exercising for 3-5 days instead of 1-2 days change TDEE by 500?>>42261484

That's why everyone all the time says to use sedentary setting when calculating TDEE. It's less inaccurate.

if you are white you should already be grateful for getting that aesthetic genetic gift. one thing that helped me the most while losing weight and working out every day, (still do no matter what), was focusing on the positive genetic traits i cannot change. instead of bitching and moaning about muh metabolism, muh height, etc... also, unless you are really fucked and an abomination losing weight will make you infinitely more handsome. we are all going to make it bros.

Water fasting is a thing. You can certainly just not eat for 2 weeks. It can lead to cycles of binge eating and fasting though.

I've realized all the added fat and sugar, not to mention assload of chemicals, is not worth my health.

Try this:
1 large sweet potato, 2 Fuji apples cored. Place in oven and cook until soft (I leave them in until they start to caramelize).

Peel skin off apples and sweet potato.

Puree in blender with 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice.

Place in baking dish, sprinkle with cloves and nutmeg, and cook until pumpkin pie consistency. (Broil last few minutes for caramelized top)

Eat warm or freeze if desired.

Is there some sort of "gain fast lose fast" rule? Whenever I binge for a bit and gain one or two kilos that weight is lost just as fast as it came. But when it's back to losing the weight I've had for years it can take a week to lose a single kilo.
>>
>>42262485
You're basically shitting what your body hasn't fully digested yet.

Your body doesn't have time to process everything.
>>
Skeleton here, the secret really is to just not eat for 99% of the day. I drink a pot of black coffee and pop in some chewing gum before work. It's a very physical 12-hour job at a distribution center. Initially you might be ravenous when you get home from work, but eventually your body adjusts and you're not even hungry when you get home. I just drink like a liter of ice water during every break period, sometimes more. I drink so much water during the day it borders on polydipsia. It's just a reflex at this point and it feels weird to not be constantly sipping on something.
>>
>>42262485
When you binge a lot of it is water weight because your body retains more water to help digest the large amount of food you just ate

Intermittent fasting is the magic bullet. The "smaller meals" meme is just self-torture like having sex but only being allowed to put the tip in for a second. It's easier to not eat at all than to force yourself to accept 3 blueberries for lunch. You got a taste of food and are just left wanting more, your fasting state is broken, and you're more likely to say "well just one more bite couldn't hurt". Before you know it you went 500 calories over your plan for the lunch.
>>
What's the frequency of your cheat days/meals?
I've been on keto for a month and had one cheat day but still kept the calories equal to my TDEE.

because carbohydrates make you fee hungry when you really don't need food. basically fake hunger. also, you're probably eating more fat than you think, and fat is great for satiety.

>>
>>42263178
No, it's a negligible amount of calories, the vast majority of intermittent fasting advocates use black coffee during their fast to blunt hunger without breaking their fast.

Remember that the coffee is black with nothing in it at all except coffee and water, obviously your fast will break if you add in sugar for example, the coffee by itself is next to 0 calories

Throw everything away now. If you have to fast for a bit til you get the right kind of food, it wont kill you. The longer you wait the more chance your fat ass brain will try to rationalize not doing the right thing.
