Why would I reduce sodium intake? There is no link or correlation between consumption in of sodium in adolescence or young adulthood and high blood pressure later in life. There is only a correlation that once your blood pressure becomes high (age/genetics) laying off the salt can help reduce it in some people. Though many people on low sodium diets will still have above average blood pressure. Which in and of itself isn't a nail in the coffin either as being above average doesn't equal unhealthy. Because as we know from stats class an average is just a composition of all the data divided by the number of subjects, not a real or ideal number necessarily. I.e. the avg. American house has 2.5 kids doesn't mean we all have half a severed child in the basement.

keep sodium in balance with potassium (which means half as much sodium as potassium).

Saturated fats are great for health and increase HDL cholesterol in ratio to total cholesterol, which affords many benefits to the cardiovascular system.

Trans fats made by ruminants such as cows are not the same as hydrolyzed oils which are the real culprits of the trans fat scare. Don't fear meat and dairy due to trans fats.

Everything else is good advice.

While a causal relationship hasn't been demonstrated in humans (it has been shown in other mammals, such as monkeys and chimps, so it may very well be true for humans, too), there is strong evidence of a linear, dose–response effect of sodium reduction on blood pressure. In addition, the evidence shows that sodium reduction prevents cardiovascular disease. This evidence is based on findings from prospective cohort studies with accurate measurement of usual sodium intake.

You're wrong about blood pressure -- even being prehypertensive increases your risk of suffering from a cardiovascular event.

>According to some studies, prehypertension can increase the risk for heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure, and kidney failure.[15][16] One study found that a prehypertensive person is more than three times more likely to have a heart attack and 1.7 times more likely to have heart disease than a person with normal blood pressure.[17] A meta-analysis concluded that prehypertension increases the risk of stroke, and that even low-range prehypertension significantly increases stroke risk.[18]

All recent meta-analyses, some of randomized-controlled trials (gold-standard), which indicates that saturated fats is a main culprit of cardiovascular disease.

If you read all of those studies they talk about the reduction of serum cholesterol, which at face value has little to no actual value when considering those at risk for CVD and other cardiovascular issues. In half of all heart attack cases cholesterol levels are normal or low, the important element being HDL cholesterol which is heart disease preventative, and which is raised with the consumption of saturated fats.

I eat a lot of saturated fat and get most of my daily nutrients from animal sources and I would bet a not insignificant amount of money that my blood lipid profile is better than yours or, if yours is particularly good, no worse.

Everyone I know on a low/zero carb diet that gets most of their nutrition from animals similarly have fantastic lipid profiles because sat fats being bad is absolute nonsense.

I'll go in with you on the sugar intake though. Get rid of that shit. Cut down on carbs too. Insulin resistance is the devil and is the root cause of so many neurological diseases it's ridiculous.
>>
>>42223576

No, three of the studies said the recommendation to reduce saturated fats was unfounded. Four said there was merit - one of which was the AHA, the organization that's peddling the recommendation to begin with.

Honestly none of these studies are at all conclusive anyways, they are just making "best guesses" and are 99% based on unhealthy population bases. It says directly in the Wikipedia article you linked how unreliable these analyses were.

Same goes with sodium; we know sodium has an adverse effect on people with hypertension, but after countless studies nobody has been able to show any sort of correlation in healthy populations.

Same story with sugar.

"Nutritional science" is the biggest crockpot of shit, every study that comes out is peddled by some agendaed organization, if not sponsored by some particular trillion dollar industry.

Population studies, by design, can't find a link between saturated fat and cholesterol consumption and heart disease risk due to genetic variations in baseline cholesterol levels. Two people eating the same diet can have a completely different cholesterol score and therefore a different heart disease risk. What we need are dietary change experiments which calculate cholesterol at baseline and measure the change in cholesterol post-intervention.

http://www.bmj.com/content/314/7074/112

So we know a reduction in saturated fat greatly reduces LDL concentration. Is LDL tied to heart disease? Unequivocally, yes. Even if it's true that high HDL can offset the detrimental effects of high LDL (I haven't seen any evidence to suggest so), people falling under this category are few and far between.

>In half of all heart attack cases cholesterol levels are normal or low

Define "normal or low". Is their LDL in the recommended 50-70 mg/dL?

>and which is raised with the consumption of saturated fats.

Does this offset an atherogenic effect of raising LDL-C. Does the ratio of LDL:HDL remain the same after saturated fat consumption?

If your diet requires supplementation to be healthy it is literally, by definition, nutrient deficient.

You could just eat a balanced diet of animals products, vegetables, fruit sparingly and less refined or quick release carbs and never have to supplement anything ever.
>>
>>42229782
>If your diet requires supplementation to be healthy it is literally, by definition, nutrient deficient.
Supplements are part of the diet :^).

>You could just eat a balanced diet of animals products
Did you know that the animals you are eating are being supplemented with B12? Why eat the animals when you can just take the supplements yourself?
>>
>>42229795
>supplement are part of the diet
Well yes it's a nutrient deficient diet.
>>
>>42229795

>Did you know that the animals you are eating are being supplemented with B12?

Oh, really, you know where I source my meat and animal products do you?

The animals that I eat get their B12 from their rumen system in which microbes go to work on plant matter and secret it as a byproduct.

We do not have those microbes, we cannot synthesize b12 naturally. We must absorb it from animal products in which it is readily available.

Why would I supplement b12 when I can just it meat, fish, eggs and dairy?

Supplements are never part of a diet. They're supplementary. The literal definition of a supplement is that it is extra. You have to supplement because the food you eat does not give you the nutrients you need.
I do not need to supplement because I eat as nature intended.
The sun grows plants. Herbivores eat plants and produce the appropriate vitamins and amino acids. Carnivores (humans) eat the animals.
That is the nutrient chain. That is how we have evolved.
>>
>>42229629
Keto results in building less muscle than a traditional diet, no bodybuilder does keto to build muscle, please do your research or at least start lifting before you post on /fit/. Also the way bodybuilders and athletes trying to build conditioning apply keto is vastly different from what you seem to think keto is; eating literally zero carbs is simply a bad idea. The purpose of keto is to spare protein by encouraging the body to break down fats while on a deficit. The purpose of keto is not to lose weight, and it should be done in conjunction with a caloric deficit in order to see results. There's no reason to maintain or bulk on keto since you'll probably build less muscle and therefore end up recomping slower. Also you should eat more nut fat to get more fibre, not meat/butter.

If you want a bunch (100+) studies, textbooks and cited sources neatly categorised and summarised for your autistic convenience, you can find and read Lyle Mcdonald's book "The Ketogenic Diet" in the /plg/ dropbox under the diet section.

Btw dietary guidelines recommend (you) eat no more than 50 grams of protein a day and that all women eat no less than 2000 calories a day, so your nutritional bible is really just a load of arbitrary rules made by sedentary fat people anyway. You're gonna have to do better than "the government told me it's bad".

>asking people for evidence when you posted exactly zero evidence to support your claims and you initiated the discussion

It's always fun to see dyels start arguments by saying stupid unfounded bullshit without bothering to include citations but as soon as someone comes up with a rebuttal they expect that person to have an encyclopedia of studies at hand, all of which have robust methodology and apply perfectly to the hypothetical situation at hand. Lyle McDonald has been a respected member of the fitness community and has been writing books specifically about applying scientific methods to bodybuilding since before you could read.

>Why would I supplement b12 when I can just it meat, fish, eggs and dairy?
Because the cons outweigh the pros? Why increase your intake of saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, heme iron, mercury, HCAs, PCBs and various other contaminants just so you can get your B12 from something that isn't a supplement?

>We do not have those microbes
Except we do, they're in our large intestine while vitamin B12 is absorbed in the small intestine.
>we cannot synthesize b12 naturally.
Only bacteria can synthesize it naturally, what's your point?

>The literal definition of a supplement is that it is extra.
Dictionary definitions aren't arguments.

>You have to supplement because the food you eat does not give you the nutrients you need.
A modern diet is inherently deficient of certain nutrients thanks to modern agricultural practices. The food you are eating is being fortified with a fuckton of vitamins and minerals. For example, the milk you drink is fortified with vitamin D and calcium, bread and salt are often fortified with iodine and cereals are often fortified with vitamin B3, but for some reason think that just because something isn't in a pill it's not supplementation.

By the way, some foods are fortified with vitamin B12, so you could just eat those products if you don't want B12 from a "supplement".

>Carnivores (humans) eat the animals.
You're absolutely fucking retarded, if humans are carnivores, then how come humans develop atherosclerosis when we consume saturated fats and cholesterol? If humans are carnivores, then how come we don't produce our own vitamin C? If humans are carnivores then how come we cool our bodies by sweating and not by panting?
>>
>>42230004

>then how come humans develop atherosclerosis when we consume saturated fats and cholesterol?

Show me one single study that proves that there is a causative effect. You can't. The closest you will find are studies that suggest links or slight correlations at best and outright speculation at worst.
That's your problem. You entire diet is based on a fallacy.
Saturated fat and cholesterol have nothing to do with atherosclerosis.

> For example, the milk you drink is fortified with vitamin D and calcium
