Went for my first run today a whopping 3km, gonna do 5km next time. Any tips for a beginner, i don't know weather i should be prioritising things like pace or distance or what???

I'm hoping to just build up to 10km in the next few weeks then maybe work on running that faster and faster, then possibly play around with distances, is this a reasonable approach?

Fall is the best

Hunting season, fresh organic meat

Usually about 200 - 300lbs of deer and got a moose tag so thinking around 500 - 800lbs of moose

Probably about 250lbs of pepperoni and sausage

Down to my last 10 lb bag of pepperoni

Hot afternoons like this are a prime time to hit the range and hone those shooting skills

My coach has us do different amounts every week, based off of our highest mileage week. For example: this week we're at 85%, so it'll be 76.5 miles for me. Next week is 100% so I'll be at 90 miles.

Ran my longest ever run yesterday, 4 miles at 10min pace. I have the cardio endurance to go so much faster, I'm not even close to being winded afterwards (been cycling competitively for over a year), but it's my legs that are holding me back. My ankles usually hurt when I run, and my legs in general just feel like shit (thankfully it's not exactly painful, just an incredibly uncomfortable feeling). I've only been running for a few months now and have a good pair of shoes, will this feeling go away?

It's not just being uncomforable that is bothering me, it's that it always feels like I am damaging my body when I run, it doesn't seem right that they feel so bad.
>>
>>42199843
for a lot of people the heart adapts faster than the body, just run less for now

can anyone redpill me on running technique? i always ran hitting the ground with my heel first but now ive heard its your forefoot that you should land on, went and ran a 5k today like that, and a) my pace was much worse than usual b) it was really tiring for my feet and my calves are killing me now
how exactly should your stride look?
>>
>>42200025
You need to land on the balls of your feet. Make your stride less far apart. Heel striking is BAD
>>
>>42195879

>>
Has anyone noticed 1 alcoholic drink at dinner effects your run in the morning?
>>
Hey /run/

training for my first competition atm. Everything was going great until yesterday. My knee started hurting and it doesn't feel better today. I think the reason is that one leg is longer than the other Had a similar problem some years ago. I run 6 days/week atm. I consider replacing three of them with stationary bike rides to take some stress off the knee. What do you think? Do you have a better idea?
>>
anyone have a good source for breathing exercises and shit? muscle-wise, i can run for ages, but breathing for me is fucking terrible, on the point where i almost feel like i might have exercise induced bronchospasm. it's not like i'm a fucking fatass, i bike commute everywhere and lift heavy, but when it comes to pushing it and running, i'm winded as fuck after half a mile

Not really. For elites, cadence from 800m through Marathon, easy pace or race pace, is all around 180 strides per minute.

HELP PLEASE

I need your help /run/

I just ran 10-11 miles for the first time (yay) but while I was taking a shower just now I saw one of my toes is fucking blue. It's the toe next to my big toe on my left foot. Is this really bad? Am I gonna die? Do I just wait for it to go away??

Thanks for the help this shit is scary as fuck desu
>>
I'm working on C25K

1 how do you guys do the timing intervals? I'm running with my phone in hand which I think makes my gait awkward

2 is it ok to cycle on off days? I'd like to do 6 days of cardio a week but since I'm a beginner I don't know if that's a great idea
>>
>>42204667
Your shoes are probably too small. If your foot keeps pressing against the front of your shoes you'll bruise your toes
>>
>>42204667
>>42204693
Yeah I read that as a possibility. But what do I do RIGHT NOW? Do I just wait it out? Like, is there anything I should be doing to help it heal faster? Is there anything I should avoid doing (aside from running again)? Do you know how long it usually takes to heal?

Thanks either way! Seriously this shit is not cool
>>
>>42204678

there's tons of audio with music that does it for you. option 2 is you just put it ontop of your tracks yourself
>>
>>42204730
Oh maybe I miswrote what I'm trying to say. I have the app on my phone and listen to music while running just fine. But I currently hold my phone in my hand, which I think makes my gait uneven as I'm holding a weight (albeit a small one) in one hand and also I have a tendency to pull my earbuds out of my ear due to swinging my arms. I was just wondering if there was a different/better method
>>
>>42204746

you can buy an arm case for it or put it in your pocket.

if you don't have pockets and you're a poor fag you can fashion a sleeve by cutting a sock, just make sure its secure and you aren't making a tourniquet

>>
>>42204714
you should probably rest if it hurts.
If the other anon is right about your toe bruising that means that there's a lot of pressure on your big toe, which could be caused by small shoes, small toebox, or bad form.
Small shoes and small toebox are common issues since you don't really notice tight shoes as they only get tight when you run since your feet swell, and by then you are probably more focused on running. The general advice is have a thumb's width or slightly more of space between your big toe and the tip of your shoe. The toebox should be large enough that you can wiggle your toes in your shoe comfortably.
Bad form can also put pressure on your toes. Alot of people have a habit of "braking" too much when they land which can push the foot up to the front of the shoe. If you "brake" you will feel horizontal shock if that makes any sense. When you run you should really only feel that you are absorbing vertical shock in your muscles.
Of course I am speaking widely from personal experience and I might be horribly wrong, but I hope this helps.
