I was born in a family where my father has been doing track and plays basketball for a local team for 20 years intensely, and still does a shit ton of things. He always tried to motivate me to work out and ofcourse, as a kid, I did just the opposite
Then after I turned 15 or so I realized he was right af since I was a skinnyfat DYEL amd immediately started working out, started lifting when I turned 18

Because in germany we had to do cooper test, 100m sprint, 400m sprint and endurance running and other stuff in the mandatory PE basic course, and there even was a advanced course.

I'm a teacher and I can you right now that if our government gave a damn about these kids, things would be much different.

Unfortunately I'm not in charge of teaching science. I teach social studies. And looking at the curriculum, they wait until the kids have finished standardized testing to cram a health book down their throats to keep kids occupied the last 2 weeks of school. They aren't going to learn that way. By that point they've mentally checked out. The school is more concerned with scores than what the kids actually learned or if they know any life skills.

The lunches are so nasty that I let my students not eat if they choose. The school also sells the kids ice cream, popcorn, and chips to raise money to buy school supplies. Then some of them go home and cook their little siblings instant ramen because single mom is either working or high.

Proper PE is everyday. We in Germany have only PE for 3x45minutes a week.
Most of it is not even exercise, it's selecting teams for soccer and the most atheletic games is dodgeball(Völkerball).

Did they remove it? I graduated high school in 2011 and we still had PE.

Having said that, I fucking hated it and it deterred me from working out or participating sports. Making it mandatory and graded took all the pleasure out of it and I actually resented physical fitness for a while.

I'm Glad I grew out of that phase, but pushing sports and fitness and kids is not always a good way to get them into it.
