Does anyone else here struggle to get back into the gym if they mess their diet up and put on a few kg? How do you get past this normally?

Recognize there is no easy way around or mental 'trick' you can employ. All you can do is go in and pay for your dietary sins.
I usually counter a bad cheat day with an equally extreme cut day. Ill do an hour plus on a bike or elliptical before lifting, and half an hour of walking post workout. The goal being to cut as much as I cheated the next day.
Don't do this multiple days in a row though, or you'll tank your metabolism.
Opposite for me, lose weight, lose strength, lose motivation.
