What does /fit/ think of training masks? I've seen a few guys wearing them during a run but don't know if it's just a fad

You can get the same result by breathing through a straw while running.

Meme exercise equipment
They do not simulate or give you the benefits of training at high altitude

You can just stuff your mouth and nostrils with cotton or cloth and you'll get the same result: Absolutely fucking nothing except a considerable spike in the difficulty to breathe in and out

Mostly this, but I think there actually is benefit to it, in theory.
I kickboxed for ocer a decade. It's cardio heavy. You have to get used to doing this while keeping your mouth closed and only breathing through your nose or you could get a broken jaw. I hate running but after I joined the military, I found out I was really great at it. I can jog 5 miles without having to breath through my mouth, and I never ran.
There is something behind doing cardio and getting a smaller amount of oxygen, but maybe these masks don't give you the same results as high altitude trainingin the same time...
I just smoke cigarettes, same effect
