How many grams of protons do you need in order to grow lean muscle mass without putting on fat? Are there any formulas for this?

the median protein length in homo sapiens is 375 amino acids

Your average amino acid structure contains
+H3N-CRH-COO- (assuming physiological pH)

3H = 1 + 1 + 1= 3 protons
N = 7 protons
2C = 6 + 6 = 12 protons
2 O = 8 + 8 =16 protons

= 38 protons on the base chain + the # of protons on the R group
Making this easier on myself, the most common amino acid is serine.

The R group on serine is CH2OH
H3 = 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 protons
C= 6 protons
H = 8 protons

= 17 protons in total.

Adding these two numbers 17 and 38, we get 55 protons per amino acid. Multiply that by 375 and you get 20,625 protons per molecule of your average protein.

Our hypothetical "average protein" consists entirely of serine residues. So we have two ending serines and 373 intermediate serines. 374/2 = 187 H2O removed to form the peptide bonds between serines, meaning we lose 1870 protons. Meaning we have 18755 protons per our average protein.

The weight of a single proton is 1.672*10^-27 kg. So (1.672*10^-27kg) * 18755 = 3.13*10^-23 kg of protons per average protein, or (3.13*10^-23 kg) * (1000g/kg) = 3.13*10^-20 g of protons per average protein.

If the average person eats 0.8g of protein per lb of bodyweight, and weighs 191 lbs (you're an american for the sake of it), you need 152g of protein.

The molecular weight of serine is 105.09 g/mol, multiply that by 375 for our average protein and you get 39408.75 g of average protein/mol

152g * (1 mol / 39408.75g) = 0.003857 mols of our average protein to get enough protons each day.

0.003857 mol of our protein * (6.022*10^23) = 2.322*10^21 molecules of our protein to get enough protons for the day.


So all in all,

(2.322*10^21 molecules of our average protein) * (3.13*10^-20g of protons/ molecule of average protein) = 72.7g of protons each day.

So you also need 72.7g of neutrons
And 6.6g of electrons

I know this is anecdotal evidence and only one case, but I'm cutting eating around 0.6g of protein per lb of bw, and I haven't seen any muscle loss (plus have lifts remained the same, except diddly, which went up). Also, I don't think I'm a novice (have hit 1/2/3/4 at 183 lbs) and can't progress as often as before.
