Invest in a barbell and some plates instead, or even a treadmill and start the couch to 5k program to go down in weight. Also diet.

You could do calisthenics at home and run outdoors. Or, you could go to the gym and face your fears of social anxiety. Once you move past it, and realize that those faggots that had a laugh are beneath you, you'll feel better as a whole, and you'll be better for having done that.

I can't really imagine anyone being a dick at the gym, ever. I have horrible social anxiety and was a nervous wreck going my first time. No on said a word to me. Been going about 7 months now, and it's pretty much the only place I don't have social anxiety, because everyone I have ever talked to has been nothing short of friendly and extremely polite.
