Nearly everyone at my gym looks pretty average or big but with a gut. The few who do look good doing splits have likely been training for 5-10+ years. Considering the natty limit can be reached with perfect diet, rest, and exercise within 4-5 years of lifting, they likely would have gotten to where they are a year or two faster had their routine been better. Even then, I rarely see a dude that looks like they've hit the natty limit whilst lean.

There are many ways to reach your goal. Bro splits work, SL 5×5 works, Candito works. It's whatever works best for you. Also maybe less stress on your lower back could be a good thing

I haven't done a squat or deadlift in over a year and I've had the most progress in that time since.

Just do Push/Pull rotations (Back&Bi, Chest&Tri) with cardio, HIIT and ab work every day (don't overdo it)

Don't forget to work those obliques!
