Why don't I get fat? I'm an 85kg 23 year old at 14% body fat and have been eating 3000-4000 kcals a day for the past year. I've gained plenty of muscle but my bf% has stayed the same. People have told me it's because I have "good metabolism" and that it will change as I get older, but I thought it was just about calories in > calories out.

So what the FUCK is going on?

Type 1 and 2 point to a dysfunctional gut flora, which can cause all sorts of problems. And the small hard lumps that are hard to pass can cause hemorrhoids.

Type 4 is the normal desirable shit.

The fluid types (if chronic) point to some intolerance, malnutrition or gut disease.

Your description of your shits implies that you are getting the daily RDI or more of dietary fiber. Which is good- it also means you are eating calories you aren't absorbing because IT IS all about calories in > calories out.

So if you think you could lower your calorie intake, and you'll lose bf%, it depends on whether your GI tract will adjust to a generally slower metabolism AND you don't change eating OR exercise levels.

15% bf is probably optimal for your genetics and current state of health / commensal bacterial load. Meaning things are optimised- your body gets more than enough from your gut absorption, and you leave plenty for the bacteria.

If you're sedentary, you will start breaking down like Mel, who is obviously metabolically lazy- way too much protein, probably animal protein, and other "empty calories" like sweets or alcohol.

Mel is headed for problems unless he course corrects on all fronts- diet, hard resistance, long cardio AND targeted muscle coordination work like Pilates just to get back close to his 35 year old body.

Its very, very hard to regain lost ground guys.

honestly I feel like this is me. I know CICO has to make sense by thermodynamics, but I eat my face off most days and I've been losing weight recently. A few months ago I was eating a full dark chocolate bar and drinking a heavy 20oz beer every night and I was still maintaining a good weight.
