sweet jesus why is getting fit so addicting? I've only been seriously lifting for ~3 months but fuck it's like the only thing I look forward to each day. Is this a honeymoon phase? will the desire die out after a while?
>>
>>42086421
Sixth months in and I feel the same way
>>
>>42087046
>3 years in

Still look forward to lifting and running all day
>>
>>42086421
Some days will be harder than others. 2 years in and I still chase the pump, I feeling and looking juicy. Hardest part for me is diet and meal prep work outside of the gym which can be a pain.
>>
>>42086421
it's the honeymoon phase, when the easy PRs are no longer coming it gets a little harder to always love lifting

but i still really enjoy lifting 6 years in despite the easy gains being gone years ago
>>
>been lifting for years
>started training cardio every day
>started stretching every day
>jelqing every 2 out of 3 days

Who here /burnout/
Ran everywhere ever since I was like 6, competed at nationals etc.
Used to go to gym every day after school with my bros, we all got jacked.
Started in 2011, peak-Zyzz era. Loved that shit until end of 2014
Start uni and go less and less, don't even run now, gym like twice a week. Weigh 10kg less than I did when I was 18 yet same body fat.
>>
I've been lifting since June 2012.

I honesty enjoy lifting more now more than ever. Mostly because...

>I actually have something to lose (all the muscle I've built up)
>I actually get amazing pumps because of all the additional muscle mass Ive built up (more lean mass = better pump)
>I'm able to maintain good technique and form despite lifting heavy because my body is highly trained and all the movement patterns feel perfect
>I know what lifts I am good, what lifts feel good, what lifts help me get the best results, and I know what lifts that simply just don't suit me or work well for me.

I guess it's because I know exactly what I am doing in the gym, there's no hesitations, there's no worrying, there's no 2nd guessing myself, lifting is probably the only part of my life where I am 100% sure of myself in everything I do, I guess it's because of all the failures I've been through in the gym that I discovers what works best for me personally.

That said I wouldn't ever tell someone to copy what I do, I'd tell them to do a basic program first, and then as they progress start trying out new things, when you start to understand what lifts suit you best you can begin to make your own decisions on what particular lifts you'll do and ones you wont do.

I've noticed one thing with the quitters, they never learn from their errors/mistakes, they never really think about what they're doing, they sort of just come into the gym and do whatever, no structure, no plan, no real goal.
>>
Im the same day. Last two days I didnt work out though because I just felt like complete shit and my sinuses are all fucked up.

Going extra hard tomorrow.
>>
20 months in, lifting is the only thing giving meaning to my life. So yes I look forward to it, and fucking hate rest days.
>>
>>42086421
>body releases endorphins after workout
>exercising improves bodily functions and allows you to think clearly
>increased testosterone
>clear visible improvements given consistent time and effort investment (unlike other self-improvement efforts)
>other people treat you better

How could it not be addicting?

Yep.

>Finished school then started uni and gym in 2012
>Used to always gym with my bro and had great diet. Went from 63kg to 81kg over 1.5 years or so and got reasonably strong
>Lurked /fit/ every day during golden years (scooby, ISHYGDDT etc.), hated rest days, NEVER missed sessions. Loved getting gee'd up and lifting heavy
>Spent 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 going through cycles of lifting then not-lifting. Going on holidays and losing weight, basically fluctuating around beginners lifting to maybe intermediate lifting.
>Got back down to fucking 68kg this year
>Got back into gym fairly determined, but as per usual, just been slack with diet, getting to sessions and have put on barely any weight and still have babby lifts
>Going away again soon, so I know lifts will once again disappear and I'll come back at 60kg SS squats fml...

This might be the most unrelatable thread I've ever seen on /fit/, literally.

I have never developed even a fucking natural habit for the gym, let alone taste for it. Every day I workout I have to force myself to it, and it's so hard to do that I had to develop a number of schemes and strategies to make me do it, because there are many factors that will instantly get me on "eh, you can skip this one day" mood, so every detail of my day needs to be pre-planned. There was a period I even told my girlfriend to hide my computer every workout day from me until I was back from the gym (and I only stopped that because she said she felt ridiculous doing it). I also have been lifting for a year, so I don't think it will change.

This is the type of shit that makes me wonder if there's something wrong with my brain chemically. I have tons of self-discipline but it never come naturally. I lift, I read a lot, I box, I try to have my shit together, but all these things feel like a chore, something that is completely outside my "nature". The only thing I ever want to do is literally sit around and play videogames.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I was a total bum in my formative and developmental years, so now as a grown man I can't really adapt well to other things.
>>
Been lifting for about 3 and a half years. I'd say 95% of the time I cannot wait to be in the gym. Haven't missed more than 3 days in a row since 6 months of lifting, even with injuries I push through and go anyways.
>>
>>42086421
6 years in.

Nearly 2 years in, still obsessed. My life is so entirely empty that it makes sense, though.

A week ago I was at my friend's birthday party and spent most of the night planning my pre-bedtime meal and talking to the only other guy there who lifts about the best way to build pecs with stupid ectomorph shoulder placement.

>>42090995
If anything, that should make you happier with yourself. If to this day it still doesn't come naturally to you, then you have to continue to exercise perfect discipline to keep it up. You've literally had to overcome your own shitty brain. Thats amazing.

yes i still look forward to it. started lifting, cardio (seriously, have been lifting and running on and of since i was 16 so i had decent starting strenght) and doing no porn little more than a year ago. i feel amazing, i feel confident and good looking and have the hardest boners and orgasms in years. also i eat super healthy now. still have a lot work ahead obviously but i feel like already have made it.

>>42090995
I understand this feel perfectly anon, being a functional adult is hard
I overcome it every morning by telling myself my obstinate desire to do nothing of value is rooted in the fact that I'm a complete manchild at heart and that only repeated feats of willpower will prevent me from turning into some Detectorists-tier loser
Gets me to work in the morning and to the gym three times a week and what happens in between I write off as inevitable
>>
>haven't been to the gym for a week
>one week ahead until it re-opens
>two nights in a row I'm having gym-related dreams
I'm a gym addict already? I was working out for just one month.

Only thing I look forward to. I literally sleep, work, work-out, then browse forums about working out and forums about news/politics. Repeat for the past three years. Every now and then I'll bring a 5/10 girl off tinder to my apartment to bang. Lifting is the best part of my day. Without it I'd be a drunk for sure. I'll be 30 in a month. No idea what the fuck is next.
>>
>>42087749
This too. Good post.
>>
>>42087813
You should go when your routine tells you to go even if you feel shit. Sure, if you're seriously sick but your "sinuses bring all fucked" is not a good enough reason.
>>
>>42086421
3 years and I still do it every day, even got injuries, but it just feels so good every day when you wake up to look in the mirror and to see someone bulky. It satisfies very basic and natural instincts that give you a huge ego boost, something of which the likes like money cannot give to you.
>>
>>42087736
>2011, peak-Zyzz era.
didnt zyzz die in 2011
>>
>>42086421
i have had times when i didnt look forward to gym, like after a 6 week holiday where i ate like shit and lost heaps of gains, now i love going especially since im now one of the bigger guy at my gym and get a lot of mires and people thinking i juice
>>
>>42090995
are you at the very least, proud of your progress? Have you progressed greatly? What are you results?

I feel the same way kind of. I joined a gym 3 weeks ago and I'm starting to feel discouraged, but I'm not quitting.

I look forward to the idea of how my body will look a year from now.
>>
>>42086421
Iktf bro, I've been back on the ball for about a month now and lifting is the highlight of my day
>cutting is the worst though
>>
>>42090995

>>
>>42090995
Does lifting make you happier in other aspects of your life?
Is your health important to you?
Honestly if the answer is no to both of these lifting is for naught (unless you are trying to get out of depression).
>>
>>42093111
He said peak didn't he?
>>
>>42086421
its that instant gratification. Even if you don't see a change, you can still feel the small changes in strength as you hit a new PR or am working your way towards a new PR.
It will stop being this way when you start plateauing and have to work harder just to move up in weight.
>>
>>42086421
The trick is to have every other area of your life so shit that lifting is literally the only good thing in your life haha
>>
>>42090995
Will power is the most overrated meme. If you don't want to go to they gym then you're never going to make it. You might force yourself to go for a number of years and get pretty swole, but sooner or later you'll have a kid or work will get to demanding or something, and you'll have your excuse to become a flabby tub of lard. Honestly you should just quit right now and save yourself the time to do what you actually want to do.

I get a little high from lifting. It might be all in my head but I always love seeing how my body looks in the mirror after working out.

I've read that exercising will make you happier due to the chemicals it releases in your brain. That's probably why we look forward to it so much - it's the rush you get from working out.

I like lifting for the mires and dominance

Whats it like taking up cardio? How does it help in day to day life if im an office worker?

Same question for stretching
