nah, I didn't really notice until 26 or so, and it's been really slow. Like 3 years later I'm still mostly fine, just noticably thinner on top when hair is wet and receded on the sides compared to prior years.

As far as styling, i know on nwlace you can pay extra to have it pre-cut, otherwise the unit comes with 6inches of hair.
I usually attach mine, tuck it under a cap and go to a sportcut type place right before closing although you could find a private hairdresser on craigslist and make an appointment
