This, coming from a metalhead. I used to just spend my free time finding obscure bands and browsing /metal/. Then i spoke to a girl and realised how autistic i acted and reqlised i needed to get better if i want a chance, so i started visiting /fit/, hit the gym, started taking cold showers (im down with the flu now so that has to go out the window until i recover), quit porn entirely, only fap about once a week, and reading non-fiction books. Metal is now a weapon i use for motivation and working out. Im actually passing uni and beginning to try and talk to people now which is great.

It's associated with low testosterone. Betas listen to it because it drowns the voice inside their head, since they lack any decent introspective abilities or mental schemas. Often, people will do it to drown their own negative thoughts.

i listen to almost everything; but when i work out, its almost exclusively metal. idk why. i think it might be a combination of getting amped and being distracted from how hard a lift might be. although for some reason, it has to be hip hop for deadlifts. kinda weird imo

Tbh I think that this depends on band to band. Just look at "Dream Theater", if you go to their concert you will mostly find grown up men, with everyone looking like a Dad or about to become one. If you go to a Bring me the horizon concert, you will find mostly emo girls and probably the most low testo males I've ever seen. If you go to a Amon Amarth concert, you will find mostly betas and cringy people.

So yeah, maybe you are right.

Because it's music for outcasts. Which usually means male dominated since women tend to put much more value on fitting in.

It's not just metal, although I see a ton of beta af dudes in concerts and festivals.
Overall, music that employs some scales more often than others, tends to attract men over women, and the other way 'round.
Minor and it's variations (pentatonic, harmonic, etc.) tend to be preferred by men, especially the pentatonic one. It's perceived as more aggressive due to the longer space in intervals unlike full scales which have softer progressions (in pop).
Hip Hop/Rap dunno how you call it, also uses minor pentatonic a lot.
Metal that uses stuff beyond pentatonic (say, full minor, harmonic, etc.) tends to use then intervals which are heavier sounding.
Even jazz shows this. The jazz that men tend to like, uses progressions and chords built from intervals that are more minimalist (as weird as this sounds) or "aggressive/sad".

New metal mostly. If you listen to older stuff (judas priest, black sabbath, mötley crue, ac/dc) it tends to be rather high pitch.
