Do aerobic intervals. Like, if you're going on a 45 minute run pick up your pace for a minute, every five minutes. Alternatively, do a fartlek run. When I do an 8 mile run I just alternate the mile pacing. It usually looks like this:
mile 1: 8:30
mile 2: 7:30
mile 3: 6:00
mile 4: 8:30
mile 5: 7:30
mile 6: 6:00
mile 7: 9:00
mile 8:00 5:30
