Completely unnecessary. If you are going the home gym route, invest your money in a good power rack and flat bench instead. There is no necessity for any machines that are for ab workouts alone. Maybe an ab wheel if you really want to.

they are one of the very best exercises you can do for your abs. They don't strain your back as much as flat crunches or ab machines and you can add a lot of weight while some ab exercises become absolute after beginner level.

However abs in general are low priority and you should really only think about it once you got your pullups, ohp, diddies, squats, benches and covered.
