Reaching this state was hard, but man was it worth it

This is the true happiness pill

Be sure to ask where you're all putting your penises during the sesh. Some places have a coat check-style method, others the guys just chuck their genitals into a corner.
>>
>>41821942
The medieval guys were big on meditation and they made some of the biggest leaps and bounds regarding theology. I think it's something that a lot of people are really missing out on; trying to reflect on the nature of the world/God can take you further spiritually than just picturing a bearded man on a cloud.
You're not trying to enter any sort of spiritual world, you're just delving deep within the mind you already have for a deeper understanding of God (which I think is one of the most important things if you want to feel secure in your faith, it is for me at least).

considering he didn't write down anything himself and there's thousands of different interpretations of the bible, yes, we can say he was not a good teacher.

his purpose was simply to purge humanity of its sins, as a payment of karmic debt. and to encourage humanity to be aware of their actions and sins.

there are a lot of techniques
the goal isn't to stress about your mind wandering, just be aware that it is
highlight every wary thought as a "thought" and be conscious of it.

other ways to help are visualization techniques, like imaining molden butter or gold being slowly poured on the top of your head and the heat spreading across your body.

or one I like to use is I remember a river from my childhood and think only of that water flowing lazily around the bend

Pretty new myself and faced the same problems you did concerning thoughts drifting off and all that stuff.

It really helped me to do simple breathing meditations. Just focus on your breath. Find an amount of air that is comfortable to breathe in. And then always come back to breathing.
Your mind will wander and drift off in the first few minutes, but it will stop to do so after a while. Just be patient and persistent.
After five to ten minutes your thoughts will fade away.

Good luck, its fun!

You're making it my boy. Back in 2014 i started to read up on buddhism and it really taught me to be in the present moment. Completely transformed my social anxiety.

Two years later, had some opportunities to try mushies and lsd and that REALLY transformed my mental state.

My chil level is a solid 8 out of 10 these days and i noticed that its very easy to connect with people. Several people have made comments like, "you seem super chill these days." I absolutely am.

Be careful with psychedelics though. I have HPPD from doing too much shit in six months. I've had it for over a year and haven't touched any drugs.

Zen is a branch of Mahayana Buddhism, and it translates to meditation. It was Dhyan in India with Sanskrit, then it became "Chan" in China, and when it reached Japan, it became "Zen".

I'd suggest you do a google search to see if there's a center nearby. Search something like "<your zip code> zen center". Also try meetup.com

Mindfulness is just another name for meditation, right? The same that requires focusing on breath.

Mindfulness is being aware of your surroundings and your bodily movements. It's a form of meditation, but sitting meditation is about internally clearing your mind. You can say mindfulness is external meditation while sitting meditation is internal meditation.

not the guy, but even 14th dalai lama said the we westerners shouldnt drop everything altogether and go up the mountains to meditate with the rest of the buddhists monks. You have grown withing some culture, your way of life is easily discernible from your past actions&activities and there is nothing wrong or right about that. Announcing yourself as buddhist is not necessary, although it might help some to internalize the mindset of living in the present moment.

Fuck that. True happiness is about achieving something, and the road to those achievements. It can be anything that is signifcant and require lots of practice or work to achieve. For me its lifting goals, and blacksmithing. I may add something else later in life. Doing nothing and think thats true happiness is a delusion.

me about 2 years ago. I have yet to decide what it means and what to do with it. Basically Ive jumped from the point of identifying myself on the basis of mostly my thoughts bolstered by my ego and feelings, to me being conscious about all this.

Since then I have started observing myself and noticing thought patterns. I have a wider perspective on my internal state, instead of going with it I try to put this in relation to the past and the moment.

Bad thing is I sort of gave myself depression as I stopped trying to rush through my life, which helped keeping bad thoughts out by keeping myself constantly busy.

I usually try to stay in the present but cannot help myself and have some depersonalization episodes perhaps? I start to watch myself from the outside, I become aware of the surroundings, how do I appear to others and how I as a person am interacting with the rest of the world.

What the fuck is beimg present in the moment? Please explain without pseudoscience bullshit terms, just say it as it is with examples of such

Protip: you cant
>>
>>41838175
Yep, its pretty much bullshit.
People who feel like they have no meaning or goals in life are usually those who do this shit. And think its gonna bring them happiness. Doing something meaningful to you, and overcomming hardships to a certain degree is a lot better. You need to feel the low to really feel the high. Life isnt about always being happy.

Medieval christian monks in monasteries DID meditate (and some of the most famouse writing theological texts did use drugs too)
>>
There is a lot of bullshit regarding meditation so i`ll just post the routine that actually WORKS.

1. Find any comfortable position. Prefferably laying, but sitting or anything else that lets your body not feel numb from not moving would do. Crosslegged meditation positions is a meme and counterproductive - unless you want to train concentration to withstand pain and incomfort, but in that case its better to meditate in pose that actually IS painful - either different kids of stretching or for example on massage nails.
2) To suggessfully meditate you need to completely relax the body and abstragate your mind from it. Easier said than done. You cant just order your body to "relax" (well, you can but that requires autogene keyword training) - the way is autosuggestion.

Its insufficient to just tell your body to relax. What you do is basically concentrate on parts of your body and repeatedly tell yourself that "you are getting more relaxed", "certain body part is now completely relaxed" etc.

The way to do it best starting from either leg fingers or arm fingers. Dont try to encompass body as whole - focus on specific part, and when feel sufficiently relaxed move mind to next connected body part until covering whole body - can require multiple "circles".

The result should be that via concentrating on your body you should actually cease feeling it, be connected to it, as if all it got numb.

Concentration on breathing is counterproductive for that. Breathing techniques are for kinds of energy circulation NOT meditation. Your breathing during meditation should be absolutely natural and you shoudnt think about it.

Once the body is relaxed you can try to experiment with autosuggesttion - for example telling yourself you feel warm, cold, you feel light or heavy in opposite, that your skin is thick as stone or porous as cloth etc. Alternatively "mind techniques" where you imagine effects on your concisous - sleep, abrupt awakening, adrenaline, erection etc.

What is the absolute best position to meditate in? On the floor? Sitting in a chair? Laying down?

After you confident with reaching different states the next step is to gain benefits from it: assign keywords to different states and train to immidiately cause them associated with the keywords. From this stage, meditation will actually bring benefits to your normal life, since you`ll be able to control your mental and bodily state via autosuggestion keywords.

"Fight!" for instant adrenaline and mobilization
"Calm" for regaining calm
"Concentrate" for when studying or performing task that requires high degree of concentration
"Memory" for recalling things

etc.

Thats the most basic stuff. Everything aside from that is essentially esoteric autosuggestion and cultivation - which also has beneficial effects, but not as straightforward.

For example - building mental defences to awoid negative emotions of others or negative influences/curses like for example layer by layer building the brick wall in your mind and digging a trench, thorns to defent etc. After that can establish mental connections/network with other people - its for YOUR benefit as its AUTO suggesetion, but it works.

This said - when people tell you to "just" meditate and not give specific telling sitting 15 min in crosslegged pose would bring you benefits its like telling people - opening Visual Studio for 15 minutes a day and watching on empty form would teach you programming.

Sorry to hear this anon, my brother also offed himself. It's been seven years now and I can say I'm out of the ditch. It get easier with time, and a lot of introspection. Keep going, cry when you need to, talk when you need to, don't be too hard on yourself. Grief is the worst pain that your psyche can take, you'll get out of this changed, but not necessarily sadder.

i'd say depersonalization is a normal thing to be experiencing with this of stuff.

how can you not feel depersonalized when you watch yourself so closely that you see that you aren't "you"?

just because you don't understand it doesnt mean it's bullshit.

being present in the moment means you don't think about the future or past at all.

a person who lives in the present will only be aware of his immediate surroundings. when he eats he does not think about where the food came from, who or how it was prepared, what it will feel like when he shits it out, or when he will eat another food like it again. he simply enjoys the eating of it 100%. all focus is on the taste buds and bodily functions like chewing and swallowing.

he doesnt waste his attention on the past or future because they don't exist. theyre simply concepts in your head, imagination acting itself out. being anxious and fearful about the future is like being scared of a dream. theyre equally real.

obviously living in the present isn't viable for survival or advancement. but it is for happiness and enlightenment. to have 100% of your attention focused on solely your current environment, that is living in the moment.

>>
>>41842703
if you meditate long enough the problems that make you want to kill yourself will come to surface and you can better deal with them.

or you can live the rest of your life in constant attention deficiet.

what do you have to lose

it's just a learned skill that you develop over time

the more you do it the more natural it is and eventually you'll just do it without trying

meditating isn't enough maintain it tho, practice mindfulness 24/7 and you'll get it
>>
>>41842142
You keep meditating until that is your default state of mind. Meditation is mental exercise. The lack of exercise causes atrophy.

It is like when before and after lifting or beginning to do regular exercise, you discover new sensations you didn't even know and that can't be described to others, they got to try it.
>>
>>41842703
Anon, you are not distracting from reality with thoughts, you are distracting from (bad) thoughts with other ones.

What people here are proposing you is to gain control of your thoughts.

I finally decided to quit alcohol and porn a few days ago. I actually permanently deleted all traces of my porn folder, which was like 50 GB of shit collected over 2-3 years. It was an impressive collection, I must say.

I had a very bizarre, and very real epiphany about life, happiness, and self sabotage, and at once knew I needed to eliminate these vices from my life.

Probably not everyone needs to. Each of us must take an honest look inward to, and we will know in our hearts what helps us and what hinders us along our journey.

>prayer is meditation. jesus was taught by great eastern monks but he wasnt a good teacher himself.
This is bullshit and pure blasphemy. Jesus was brought up purely in jewish ways. He studied the scrolls that make up the OT in the synagogues.

"Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you”
Matthew 6:5-6

jesus wasnt relevant until he was about 30. what did he do for all those years? why are his teaching so similiar to eastern teachings?

Jesus may have been born jewish but he did not endorse their ways.
>>
>>41844025
>jesus wasnt relevant until he was about 30. what did he do for all those years?

That's about how long it takes to accept that you're Jesus.
