weighted pull ups are bad (my personal opinion) because it puts too much strain into the shoulder joints and neck if done poorly. lats pull down on machine are better if you want to increase your max rep

What would you recommend to increase the amount you can do? I'm somewhat decent at weighted pull ups, but my bodyweight ones are terrible (can manage 35 kg x 8 x 3, but feel like throwing up/passing out after 18 bodyweight pull ups).
