How important are rest days exactly? I feel like I'm wasting

How important are rest days exactly?

I feel like I'm wasting time by not going to the gym. Surely there's some muscle group I can still work right? Can't you do abs and cardio everyday?

Yes, you can do cardio every day if you aren't doing marathon training or whatever. Run 3 miles anon.

No, I do cardio all the time. As long as youre not doing high intensity cardio for an extended period of time (45+ minutes), you will not be losing muscle mass.

How many days are you taking off of the gym? I only have 1 rest day, so I enjoy the time that i get off. But I still feel that i could get more out of that day if i did some extra cardio.

And yeah, i currently do abs at the beginning of every workout as sort of a warm up. Most people say abs are only required 3-4x a week, but i do them every workout because that's what works for me.

I totally agree that most muscle groups require adequate rest for growth. But there are also some stubborn muscles that need to be trained more frequently (calves, traps, and abs for me). It all depends on what works for you. Training abs 6x a week helped mine to blow up. I'm also training calves 5x a week. It's all about learning how your body responds.
