If laminate is going over it anyway you can use absolutely anything, plywood with slats underneath would be the easiest. What state are those floorboards in? Could they be restored rather than covering wood with fake wood?

You can't isolate when you're a noob. Build the entire floor up, your weak spots can be filled in after you've been doing this for two years.
